Can I swap sim cards with a new Droid Maxx?

I'm looking for any explanation or similar situations. I've had 3 iterations of the Droid Maxx over 6 years no problems. The latest on died on Monday. It was on a Motorola charger and it was fine about 3 am - the clock was on. By 5 am it was dead. It would not respond to any of the recommended diagnostics. I took it to a repair shop and their assessment was it look fine and undamaged, but was toast. Any plausible reason why with would suddenly happen. I do believe there was a recent OS update, but I'm not certain it was added to my phone.

My Verizon service is active and I have my SIM card. If I just buy another Maxx on Amazon and drop in the SIM card am I good to go? My issue is that Motorola wants $150 to "repair" read that replace the phone and I can buy a comparable phone on Amazon for $100. I'm quite happy the capabilities. I do not need the latest wizbangs.

Correct. As long as your SIM fits the replacement phone, and the device is compatible with Verizon, it'll just activate up. The phone must support Verizon LTE to do this.

Bummer to hear the phone died. My personal recommendation is if the phone has a removable battery (many do not, and increasingly common these days) to remove it for a short while. Also make sure the USB port is in good shape, free of debris. Also, try a battery from another identical phone, just in case the battery is at fault.
