Email deleted from server not deleting from Samsung 6 after Marshmallow update today.

Have tried clearing cache, deleting email accounts and then adding again.

Noticed that can't select none for security for smtp settings for GoDaddy hosted accounts.

Wiping the cache partition did not work.

Tested by sending three emails (2 to different GoDaddy accounts and 1 to a RoadRunner account), hitting their servers to get them all three of them on my phone, then logging into the servers and deleting the test emails.

Having no problems sending emails so smtp settings logically not the issue…I think.

When I tried the suggested wiping cache partition routine yesterday, I even went to the trouble of clearing data and cache using application manager, then deleting the accounts and, after wiping the partition cache and rebooting, freshly installing the accounts.

Can’t blame this on ISPs because using multiple ISPs.

Hope y’all can figure this out…from what I have seen on boards, I am not the only one having this problem immediately after installing Android 6.0.1 with the April 2, 2016 security patch

We expect your phone to work flawlessly after the update, BadGrandpa! Let's get your e-mail working. I do appreciate all the details you've already provided. I'd like to take a step back and try wiping Cache Partition. To do so, please follow the steps below:

1. Turn phone off completely.
2. To start the phone, press the following keys simultaneously: Power Button, Home Button, Volume +
3. When the first logo can be seen on the screen, release the power button, but hold the Home button and the Volume + button pressed
4. It now appears on the screen of your phone, a small menu. Navigate with the Volume + and Volume - keys. An entry is selected by the Power Button
5. Select in this menu now "Wipe Cache Partition".
6. After you have selected the entry the Wipe cache is flushed. This takes a few seconds. Then it automatically returns to the small menu.
7. Now select the top entry with "Reboot Now"

Please keep us posted.

BadGrandpa We appreciate your efforts. Let’s continue to work together to get this resolved. I know first hand that it’s annoying when the emails won’t delete from the phone. The next step is to delete the email accounts, and power cycle the phone. Once it is back on go ahead and install the email accounts again. Please keep us posted.

Made no changes...other than installing Marshmallows update and April 2 security stuff...all of which was just what Verizon pushed out...

Did notice that even though selected manual server setup option, pop3 and smtp fields were populated automatically...tried every conceivable permutation of using what was auto populated, changing the settings manually to what I had previously, and combinations thereof...guessing the new software isn't properly writing to the server field file...often would not update...and yes, I usually deleted email accounts each time

Here is what I just did…again…probably the third time I tried this:

Settings>Applications>Application Manager>Email>Storage>Clear Cache, Clear Data

Settings>Accounts>Email>Removed Accounts (confirmed accounts deleted and email not a running application)

NOTE: Also removed Verizon Cloud Account…only new thing installed during update…was mostly forced to when ran Verizon Software Assistant

Powered Off

1. Turn phone off completely.

Proceeded to attempt to setup Email Accounts Manually

Every freaking time I have done this since installing the update, even though I select “Manual Setup”, “POP3 Account”, it auto populates the incoming and outgoing fields with data that is inconsistent with the server settings I use with my provider

For GoDaddy, it uses:

POPS server: pop.secureserver.net (which is ok)

Security type: SSL (I use None)

Port: 995 (I use 110)

SMTP server: smtpout.secureserver.net (which is ok)

Security type: SSL (I use None)

Port: 465 (I use 3535)

Delete email from server: When deleted from Inbox (have left this as auto populated)

Authentication Required before sending emails”: checked (have left as auto populated with user name and password because consistent with settings I use)

Many times I have tried using these auto setup setting and can send email but emails deleted on server not deleted from phone

Now I change the undesired auto populated…even though I selected manual setup…settings:

When change POP3 security type to None, it auto populates Port as 110…which is ok

When I change the SMTP security setting to None, it auto populates Port as 587…this is NOT consistent with GoDaddy email

Change Port to 3535

Get screen with sync schedule which I leave “Every 15 minutes, notify me when email arrives checked

Click Sign In

Change my name for the outgoing server to [removal required by the Verizon Wireless Terms of Service]

Click DONE

STILL DOESN’T FREAKING DELETE EMAILS ON PHONE THAT ARE DELETED FROM SERVER (AND I AM LOGGING INTO THE SERVER TO MAKE SURE)

Seems to me that the fact that there is auto populating when selecting manual setup would be a good place to start looking for a solution

I appreciate everything you have tried to this point. We have seen a few occasions with emails not working properly. Do you have power save mode turned on? There has been success fixing the issue by turning it off.

BadGrampa - Keepingdeleted mesages off your device is imperative. When you delete an email do you see it being deleted off your device then it shows up again? Or is the issue not being able to select and email and not having an otion to delete it? Is this happeneing with any other email account?

On all accounts of all my ISPs, if delete email from email server, until installing Marshmallow and security update, would delete email on phone when synced with server

Thanks for working with us and being an awesome team player. I am confident we can help you figure this out. I know it was working before the update but I am not sure if this is related to the update because POP is not the best option when you want your emails to sync with the server. ISP email companies usually wants you to use their iMap or exchange server settings instead of POP. Have you reached out to them yet regarding the issue?

I am having the very same issue. Ever since the update, when I delete an email on my phone, it does not delete it on the server so it shows back up. If I delete in Outlook, it will delete on server and my phone. Sending and receiving emails work fine. The only issue is deleting emails on phone does not send to server to delete it there so it shows back up on my phone. I have tried all of the steps too. Very disappointed that they do not have a solution and this has dragged out so long. The issue is definitely with the update, not the servers. Verizon needs to make this a priority with some urgency.

I see no luck yet. I noticed same thing here. Worked fine before the Marshmallow update. I have GoDaddy and only have pop3 email access with my account.

Please respond when a fix is found.

Will be talking to real live software engineers at Samsung shortly…methinks it is an issue with Samsung email, and they seem inclined to agree…once I know more, will post it to the forum

I hope they are able to provide you a solution. The issue is Definitely, 100% an issue with the new software update. I had no issues at all with my email and right after my phone updated with the new software, my deleted emails would no longer delete on my server and keep showing back up on my phone. Mine is set up as IMAP and all of the setting are identical to what I had before. Even tried deleting and adding back the account, factory reset and all of the other suggestions. I am very confident that they are going to have to write a patch software update to fix the issue. I don't think it will be fixed in any setting on the phone, on the email program or our email servers. I look forward to hearing your update after you talk to them. I get 100's of emails everyday so it is very frustrating to only be able to delete emails when I am on my computer and not be able to do it on my phone now.

Edwin…talked to Samsung…mostly got buck passing and blunt force suggestions like do a factory reset…which I’d done twice already to no effect…when the last “tech”…and I use the term very very loosely…gave up trying to uh act like they were a tech…was told I was being escalated to level something or other…and ended up being on hold for 45 minutes before I had to leave for a meeting…going to give them another call in the next few days to see if all they have finally figured out there is a problem, much less come up with a solution…

To be fair, several times in the past Samsung’s people have been very knowledgeable and helpful…as have Verizon’s…it’s a pain dealing with this sync deletion issue but since there are other people dealing with much bigger problems, can’t really justify arguing it should be Verizon or Samsung’s first priority...at the end of the day, there is the end of the day for these poor folks that are swamped with solving all these issues related to a major update

I explained all of the steps I took in my earlier comment. I tried everything you suggested and more. I tried setting up a 2nd email address and same exact issue. I spent several hours with my website/email host and they could not resolve the issue. If the update was poorly designed where all of these email hosts would have to then update their software, that is not a very good update because it causes more issues, time and unhappy customers. This is definitely an issue that was caused/triggered by the android software update so it needs to be updated again so that it is compatible with all of the email servers, not cause them to have to update their software and inconvenience the customer. My email host is telling me it is an Android issue, which I agree. I have had this same email and server for years and have been through several Android updates. Have never had an issue. There is obviously a flaw in the latest Android update that needs to be fixed. The flaw is not allowing emails to be deleted from phones. How do we get in touch with the right person to discuss another update to fix this issue. This really needs to be addresses quickly.

Yes, when I delete an email on my phone, it does go to the Trash folder on my phone. Since the new update, that deletion is not getting sent to my email host server to get deleted on there so it shows back up in the Inbox at refresh and never gets deleted on the server.

Started using K-9 Mail. Works perfectly like the Samsung Email program did before the Marshmallow update. Must be an issue with the Samsung Email app in the new update.

Would still look forward to a fix though.

I am patiently waiting too. Through this process I have been able to eliminate all of the possibilities. The issue is with the email app that is on the phone. Verizon, or whoever the vendor is for the email app that comes on the phone needs to create an update for that will allow it to send deleted emails to the email server so that it will delete from there. Right now when you delete an email in the email app, it does not go anywhere. For some reason, the Marshmellow update has something in it that the standard Verizon email app can't communicate with. All they need to do is fix that glitch so that when you delete an email on your phone, it will get sent to the server to delete instead of just staying on your phone.

I am loving my new Marshmallow update and I want you to love yours as well. Which email provider are you using? Have you tried downloading the application specifically for that provider? That took care of my problem instantly.

My email are kept on a server so there is not provider. There is a glitch between the Marshmellow update and the email app that somes standard on the Verizone Samsung phone. The Android update does not allow deleted emails to be sent to the email server to get deleted there. Verizon needs to create an update/fix to allow that standard email app to work with Marshmellow. The email app has worked through every other Android update before Marshmellow so someody missed something in the programming that needs to be fixed. Is anyone working on either an updated for the email app, phone or Android to get his fixed?
