I am hoping to do 2 things with this post. First, to find out if anyone else is having the issues that I am. Second, to generate a REAL response from someone at Verizon about these issues.
I bought my DROID X at the end of July, received it the beginning of August. Since then, I have had nothing but problems.
First, screen issues. The screen will randomly decide that it doesn't want to take any input, and it will start creating its own. I was told twice to factory reset the phone when I called about this, and I was able to garner a refurbished replacement phone on the third call. I replaced the phone, and within 3 days had the same issue. Again I called Verizon, and they told me to do a factory reset again. Every time I call this happens. It is like they don't write down that they had me do this time and time again, and it will not fix the issue. I was told to wait for the 2.2 update. I did, and upgraded as soon as it came available to me. THIS FIXED NOTHING. The phone still does the same thing.
Second, lock ups. The hot spot app seems to do this CONSTANTLY. Every time more than one workstation connects to it, and sometimes when just 1 is connected for more than 10 minutes, the phone will drop the connection. I will try to turn off the hotspot app and turn it back on, instant lockup and restart. Also, the media player does this constantly, and will sometimes skip like crazy until you pull the battery (because the power button does not respond in this state). This has happened in both phones. I have had the phone just randomly restart MANY times, sometimes when trying to answer a call. Verizon's solution? Factory reset. First I thought that this may be the fault of the applications that I download, but I now don't add ANYTHING to the phone for fear that it might further destabilize my already fragile phone. The lockups have seemed to get more frequent after the 2.2 update.
Third, charging. I have a Motorola branded micro USB charger, and I can only get it to work if I wrap the cord around the unit so that the plug is leveraged up. This has happened with both phones. Admittedly, I don't have as many issues if I use the micro USB that came with the phone, but I still do wake up every once in a while with a dead phone.
Fourth, data connections. I live in a place that has GREAT service with Verizon. Most of the places I go have really good coverage. However, the phone fails to sync gmail all the time until I do it manually. The odd thing is, it works fine for about 4 days after I first set it up. Gmail is not as much of an issue as the exchange sync though, as exchange supplies me with all of my business contacts, calendars and email. There has been several times that I have just had to restart the unit in order for it to start synchronizing again. Also, many times I will have to send text messages again and again in order for them to get through. I will get a text message failed, or nationwide access not available message when this happens. I am well aware of service limitations, and understand that you can't get service where there is none to be had. But all of these occur when I am in 50 percent or over signal areas, with full 3G showing on the screen. This also affects all of my other data connections at times, I will not be able to load any web pages or start the Hotspot app when this happens.
In summary, I love this phone. I want it to work SO bad. I have since picked up an iPhone and had a hard time seeing how I even used such a tiny screen. But, I need it to work reliably. The real oddity here is that I know 2 people with Droid X's that don't have these issues.
Please post your frustrations, I would love to hear that I am not the only one that has been unlucky with this phone.
