Galaxy S7 SD Card Notification Keeps Appearing

Just as the title says, after installing an SD card, the notification keeps appearing that says "SD Card For transferring photos and media. Explore / Eject"

If you swipe the notification away, it reappears after what seems to be random intervals.

I've tried:

1) Re-seating the card

2) Formatting the card

3) Using a different card

Same result in each case. This seems to be an issue that quite a few others have.

Anyone have any insight into this?

I have the same thing happening and just received my phone via an authorized dealer on March 18th, 2016.

There is a lot of chatter about this problem/bug on Android Central for this phone. So far no one has come up with a solution to fix it.

Yup, I saw the same discussions over at AC. I wanted to get the topic over here at Verizon to try to help it get some visibility that might drive some resolution.

It's a common problem with all S7. The most often way to fix it is to reseat the card. If that doesn't work you may need to exchange.

Thank you so much for troubleshooting so much of the issue on your own, Selius. We know how important it is to have your SD card working to store all important content. Did this start as soon as you inserted the SD card? Have you completed a hard reset on the phone at all?

Talked to Samsung about this issue, and to Verizon!

and was offered the following: first to try to replace the Slot where the sim card and sd card goes too, and if its not going to help resolving this appearing notification, than my only other option would be to send the S& device to Samsung for repairs. i have another device which is S7 Edge and its not doing it. i'm just wondering if any of the verizon stores carries the slot accessory for the device??

No carrier carries that. You will have to get it from Samsung.

Can you post the Samsung contact info so we can try to get a new card tray?

Here is the phone number for Samsung 800-726-7864 but just after talking to

them again few minutes ago, and as u understand that u get to talk to a

different rep when u call in, and guess what?! They different rep told me

that they are not going to provide me with a new Tray slot and I have to

send them the device for full diagnostic and repairs and they will provide

me with the shipping label, so now go and guess who to believe as I've

been getting different answers from different reps. But anyways u guys can

try calling them and see what they have to say to u. Good Luck!!!

here is some more updated info in regards to the sd card notification appearing on the s7 screen.

i paid a visit to best buy store, and they have a sumsung reps counter/ tech support, so was lucky that a rep was kind enough to pullout a new tray slot for the sim card and sd card and tested on my device as i was told by Samsung over the phone, that more likely its a tray problem, but Guess what its Wrong!!!!!! i was told to return back to best buy and see the Samsung counter rep on Wednesday morning, and he strongly believes, that a Software Reflash will take care of this problem. so i'll do that and if its going to resolve this issue i will keep u posted immediately!!!!

the latest what was told by the Samsung consultant at the best buy store is to do a Softwarereflash as everything else was tried!!!!! so going back on Wednesday to best buy store to see the Samsung people to do that as they were very busy today on Monday, and was told that usually on Wednesdays its more of an easier day at least near by me in Southern California in Sherman Oaks area.so if anything will keep u all posted.

Reflash not going to fix the problem. If you reseat the card and you still get it then do an exchange. There's various threads for all S7/Edge about this very issue doesn't matter what carrier. All so far have been fixed via reseating the card or exchange. None has been fixed from any other method from what I have read.

The problem is when it comes to exchanging the device, as I was told by

Samsung over the phone. If they won't be able to fix this issue, they will

not send me a Brand new one it will be Certified Like New, but I paid for

a New device and I'm only 3 days out of the 14 days to do the store

exchange, but I'll give it a try. Thank u anyways

The SD card notification icon only appears on my S7 when I start or restart it. All you have to do is pull down the notification bar and swipe the SD card message off. It won't come back until you either turn on your phone or restart it.

here is some updates as how i was able to get rid of the notification on your S7 and S7 Edge about SD Card for Transferring photos and Media. at least its working ok for me now for few hours already with out the notifications.

here is what i did. with all the respect, that all of us choose in the settings of the phone as storage location to SD Card, it does not mean that the phone it self was communicating with the SD card and registered the SD card, so here is what u need to do on your device: when u open the camera on your phone to take pictures, u need to make sure that the SD card Icon shows in the right corner of your screen device, after take few pictures of anything u want, once those pictures are taken do the following: on the device tap the apps icon, it will take u to the next page as where u will see the Samsung Icon tap on it and u will see the yellow color file picture/ or to some of u it may look like a little hand bag tap on this yellow file . the next page will open with the following options as Device Storage and SD Card. as well as u will see in the right upper corner of your device u will see more , so tap on it and choose copy, than to SD card then go back to the yellow folder and under DCIM tap on it a picture that was taken will appear, tap and hold on it than choose done. this will register your sd card with your device. at least as of right now its working for me for few hours now, and hoping it will continue this way??!!!!!! also please let me advise u about something else in respect to the Gallery Icon. if u will delete the pictures that were taken and u will delete them, they will be deleted from SD Card as well. the Gallery will work for u in this case only as Viewer, but not as a internal Storage user. i wish all of us luck!!!! and hoping, that this annoying message will not reappear again.

Seems like whatever I shared in the community forum is not working for u.

On my end I don't have the notification for several hours now, hoping that

it was resolved on my device will see. But if I will get new or other info

After some resolution on the SD card issue which has been provided to me at Best Buy store at the Samsung counter tech support, and some of my own work on troubleshooting the SD card issue on my Galaxy S7 the notification as SD is for Transferring photos and Media use to pop up every q0- to 15 minutes, now it appears every few hours but it's still a problem, and also let me she with u another issue. I also have another Device which is Galaxy S7 Edge and I never had this problem with the Edge device it started all of a sudden Yesterday. So I called Samsung and they have provided to me a local address and a phone number for an authorized Samsung Repair center if u are in Los Angeles area I can provide u with this info 213-637-0190 they don't provide support over the phone only at the location, but u need to have a repair or case ticket number from Samsung, so call Samsung and explain to them your device problem so they can open a case. It's really crazy that we have to deal with this problems on Brand New Devices!!!!!

Hello! Once again everybody!

Here is the latest discovery in regards to the SD Card Notification appearing on the Galaxy S7, and S7 Edge

and also had several conversations with Verizon after many attempts to find the solution to resolve the issue. after talking to the the Manager of the Highest Level of Tech Support at Samsung, and referring to the all notes of my previous conversations with Samsung in regards to that issue, Finally i was given an address and a phone number of the local Samsung repair and Warranty location in Los Angeles, CA. after paying a visit to that Location, as well as a Visit to the Best Buy Store since they have as well the Samsung Consulting /support team, the final outcome to the this problem is the Latest Software Update which was Pushed by Verizon. my sd card was tested with the same devices, but with different cell phone providers such as AT&T, T-Moile, Sprint. and the SD card works perfectly fine with all those mentioned above providers. i tried different capacity of sd cards starting with 64GB up to 200 GB and had no problem with those providers. as u all know , that we are in the same boat and everybody tried everything including the Factory reset, formating the sd card any much more.......!!!!!! i was clearly told/ advised, that no matter what we are going to do it will be useless until Verizon is not going to fix the bug , or not until they will push a fresh, New Software update!!!!!!! until that time all of us will have this issue with the notification reappearing on our devices S7, and S7 Edge. I called again to Verizon, explain to them what has been done on my end as a consumer, and what i was told by the Samsung Authorized repair center.and by Best Buy/ Samsung team and about the results by testing the sd card on the same devices, but with different providers.i was assured, that a IT software engeenirs will be notified immediately.!!!!! AS Well i have advised the Verizon Rep to read the forums and see how many people having this problem.so my Dear Fellows its in our best interest to keep calling Verizon and advising them, that its not a problem that is caused by Samsung, and its not a diffected Devices, but its a Problem with the Latest Software that was pushed by Verizon.also i have advised Verizon, that besides the issue with the sd card notification appearing non stop, there is another issue that is caused by Verizon Update, as u all know there is several ways for Verizon to take a remote control of our devices S7, and S7 Edge via Verizon Protection, Via Rescue for Android and something called Assurion tech support , but the problem is when u call in for a tech support and they need to access your device they can not take the control of your device they can only see your screen of the device. so there is more issues with those devices than just the SD Card Notification on the screen of the device which does not go away or reappearing every 10-15 minutes. i hope that my Poem was not very confusing to u all, but thats the latest accurate info!!!!!! so don't even try it any more to drive your self crazy by fixing this issue!!!!!! its Verizon Responsibility to get on top of it!!!!!!! but we all need to be on top of Verizon in order for them to escalate this matter and fix it ASAP!!!!!!! That's a load of [removal required by the Verizon Wireless Terms of Service] right there. There's plenty of evidence from other forums of the exact same problem and it doesn't matter what carrier version including overseas models. Basically Samsung is passing the buck instead of taking ownership.

Ave of fixing this issue directly with Samsung, but after testing my SD

card with different providers and not having any issues, and Specially the

Samsung authorized repair center was not able to take care of it than good

luck. I can only post and share as what I have learned today and what I was

told.

I'm sure that there is a lot of different issues with different providers

as well as there is different posts and forums, but I'm referring to the

issue with the SD Card Notifications that keeps reappearing every 10-15

minutes and no matter what people do they can't fix it,and there is an

answer to this particular issue not only I had communications with an

authorized Samsung Repair center, but it's a proven fact, that I have used

2 different Sim cards on the same S7 devices but with different providers

and had no problems, no SD Card notification messages will keep popping

up, that's all there is to it. By posting and sharing what I have

personally learned today does not means that u have to take my info for

your personal considerations. And once again my post had nothing to do with

some other issues on Verizon or Att. This post is strictly in regards to SD

Hello everyone!

I tried everything per Samsung Instructions, including taking the devices S7 and S7 Edge to authorized Samsung repair center, which advised me that i need to send the devices back to Samsung. as well as taking the devices to the Samsung tech People at the Best Buy store, they did the software reflash, tried different sd cards still no results. so finally i send the devices back to samsung after 1 week i was advised by Samsung that No Problems Found, so lucky enough i made a picture of my screen as what exactly it shows , so they pulled my devices back from the shipping dept. for another tech evaluation. today i talked to Samsung over the phone, and according to the customer service notes i was told that No Problem is found, so i have explained my self again as what is going on with both devices, made them look at my pictures which was forwarded to the supervisor of tech dept. ask them to read the forums as how many people is out there with same problem. finally was offered to be on hold while the customer service rep will get in touch with the repair dept. after being on hold for awhile the customer service rep came back to the line and advised me with a different update vs as no problem is found. I was told, that they replaced the tray slot to both devices, and did the software reflash, and after they tested the devices again, and no problem is found according to them. so i should be receiving my both devices back sometimes tomorrow, i'll place my sim cards and sd cards and will see what happens within 24 hours if the issue is resolved i'll keep u all posted. and please Note that SD Card Notification was appearing on my screen not only when the device was powered off and On but every 10- to 20 minutes. so lets hope that it was fixed as Samsung is telling me after all this run around!!!!!!

Good luck with that problem you are having. I've had my S7's for about two weeks now and that notification only comes up when I reboot the phone. FWIW I'm using a Ultra Plus 64gb card by SanDisk that I got from Costco.

Does anyone also have the problem that the PC will not recognize the SD Card as an external storage. Worked OK until I started getting the sd card media notice on the phone.

The card works fine with the camera. My pc usb port work OK and will recognize my external hard drive.

Did u tried to remove the ad card and reinsert again? But if u need to do

so make sure to power the device off, that power it on hopefully it will

help

Bob when you plug the phone into a laptop using USB cable, pull the notification bar on the phone down and change USB from charging to another selection that is offered on file transfers.

Thanks, I should have known that. Just got sidetracked with the SD card notification. Don't really care about the notification as long as it doesn't cause any problem.
