My fb app has disappeared - the icon is still there

and it still reflects the # of notifications. But when i click the icon i get a greyed out f in the m iddle of a blank page and then reverts to my home screen.

could i have done this by accident? could an auto update hav e done it? how do i get it back?

Tesselate, we want to make sure that you stay connected to your friends and family on Facebook. Did you power your device off/on since this issue started? Are you currently conneted to our network or Wi-Fi on that device? If you're connected to Wi-Fi, please disable Wi-Fi in settings, connect to our network and try to access Facebook again.
