After last update just get startup failed on screen, upper left corner says secure fail: kernel
any suggestions on how to force a factory reset or reload tried smartswitch but laptop never sees galaxy s5

Checking to see if this posts. Got a message that I was not allowed.
How can I do anything with the phone when I can not get it to power up? I explained this twice in new posts that disappeared when I hit the submit button. I updated to marshmallow. A day or so later I went to bed with a charged battery and got up with a discharged battery and a message that the phone had not started properly. I shut it off and charged it. Restated the phone. Got a notification of some sort and tried to see what it was. Could not. Shut the phone off and it would never start again. Tried removing battery, tried starting with charge plugged in, took it to Verizon and to Samsung at BestBuy. What now?
I understand your frustration I had the same problem called Verizon and Samsung and no help at all . If you have a computer try downloading smart switch from Samsung. Once you get your phone restarted plug it in to your computer and swipe the screen down you will see a screen that says file transfer hit that and it will connect to your computer.Once that's done just go to more at the top of smart switch and do the emergency recovery .hope this helps.
Trouble is it's dead as a doornail. Can't get it to start.
