Exploding Note 7 Replacement By Mail

I have the exploding Note 7. Just received notice that new ones will be available on Sept 21. I don't really feel like going into the corporate store and spending three hours. Can I just put in an order to have a new Note 7 shipped to me, I'll get it set up and transfer data from the exploding to the non-exploding version, and then send the exploding Note 7 by mail? That would seem like the most efficient way to handle for VErizon as well. Why don't you do this?

Carriers do not seem willing to ship/handle the EN7; something about these devices having the potential to burn-up in a runaway chemical-thermal reaction. We'll just have to haul it to a corporate store or a non-corporate store or arrange a back-alley exchange all by our lonesome.

I agree, the nearest corporate store to me is 200 miles away.

not helpful, didn't answer the question - the stores don't appear to be getting enough Note 7s and don't think they should be replacing phones bought online. Looks like pre-order buyers are forced to get in line behind brick and mortar buyers.

If you're really insisting using the stores, here's an easy idea - send out a message to all the phones bought online that is a letter from the CEO directing the store employees to replace the phones, no fuss, no muss, no dickering over parts (I certainly don't have the box or plastic that covered the screen.) You walk in and show them that message and the job gets done. Still doesn't help the gentleman above who lives 200 miles from a store, but you already knew that.

I keep waiting for the definitive word as to how online buyers will be integrated into the recall/replacement procedure; waiting for the next shoe to drop perhaps in receiving an email or text with a FedEx or UPS tracking number denoting a new phone on its way. Has anyone ruled-out that possibility?

Ruled out? No. Then again I haven't ruled out winning the lottery or living til I'm 200 - I'm just not counting on it.

That being said Vlad, a wise man once observed, "never assume malice that which can be explained by stupidity" Since we're talking Verizon Wireless and not VZ corporate, it is POSSIBLE that they're planning on doing the only fair and reasonable thing and replacing our phones the way we bought them, but that putting those plans into effect or even communicating them is held up by layers of bureaucracy and management disfunction. One can hope.

Folks living in remote areas are well aware they will not get the top-hat service as a person in a big city. They live with it by choice.

About mailing the problem is this Note7 is now deemed a hazardous/inflammable material and has to be declared as such. So how to get it back to the vendor? Perhaps someone with experience with such items can shed some light on it.

I already have an official Verizon Letter saying pretty much what you have expressed. I am going to print it and take it with me when I go to pickup my replacement Note7 at the "Corporate Store", just in case I get the run around. The letter/email/announcement is not signed by any CEO, but then Verizon is here to stay and CEOs may come and go. I prefer the Corporate announcement any day as it is definitely an enforceable instrument.

I don't understand the concern of shipping it back if the thing is shut off.....

However, during my chat with Verizon, I was told I had to go to a cooperate store or I could buy one online and ship mine back, BUT I would have to pay and be charged for the new phone and refunded when I returned the other one.

I'm in the I want to charge my battery fully before turning it on, then transfer my stuff via Samsung Switch and then use my computer to transfer other files, factory reset the old phone, etc, and I do not want to be rushed in a busy store doing so.

I preordered my phone. You know I have it. You know I am still using it. You know it is recalled. Put my name on a blue Note 7 and ship it to me! I shouldn't have to call, or chat, or pay for a new one or do anything really, if you don't get the old one back in "14 days" then charge me for it, like normal upgrades. This isn't some random toy purchased by who knows who. They know I have it, it is simple to just send a new one to me...Heck, keep the $25 bill credit even for the inconvenience of doing so.

despite all the unofficial airline announcement, cftc Recall, etc, no one has "deemed" the note 7 any such thing. For that matter the airlines still allow them on passenger planes, just shut off. More to the point, in the other thread VZ has already said you could mail it, but only for folks in the 14 day return window!!!

Why does Verizon insist on imposing their 15-day return policy on a device that has been recalled? This is a safety recall, not an exchange. Note 7 owners are experiencing a major inconvenience with replacing their devices only to have Verizon make the swap to a safe device even more inconvenient.

If Verizon cared about retaining their customers at all, they would do all they could to get a new, safe device in the hands of all note 7 owners. Instead, they are making customers jump through hoops and forcing many to continue to use a device that poses a risk to everyone involved. There are many people that are unable to physically go to a Verizon location to make the exchange, hence the reason they initially ordered the phone on-line. Since these same people can not be without a way to communicate in case of an emergency, they continue to use the device that poses a fire hazard to their children, their homes, etc.

It would seem that it would be much less expensive to implement an on-line exchange than risk being sued over an injury caused by not accommodating individuals who can not physically return the phone to a Verizon store. Sorry Verizon but not all individuals with disabilities or physical limitations are on fixed incomes. Many own and operate businesses and do very well for themselves and can afford your ridiculously priced services and high-end devices!

Guys... It's actually ILLEGAL to ship out the Note 7 when there is a recall. This is the SOLE reason it has to be done in store. Try going to USPS and tell them you want to ship your Note 7 and see how fast that idea gets shut down.

So go to a store, and they have to accept them or they could face legal action as it is an official recall.

They are not forcing you to jump through hoops. How can they get you Note 7s when they DO NOT MAKE THEM, NOR HAVE THEM IN STOCK? They are having you return your devices so you can get new ones as they arrive. Can we think rationally for a minute here instead of ranting about things no carrier for that matter has control over.

I am not sure what part of my post you consider to be irrational. At this point, I believe we are all aware that the new devices will not be available until Wednesday at the earliest. In no way did I insist that they need to send new devices out right this instance. If you had read and comprehended what the representative from Verizon had stated previously, you would have realized that they are willing to exchange (via shipping) devices purchased within their 14-day return window. However, they are not willing to extend this service to those individuals who ordered previous to the 14-day window. Anyone outside that window will have to take the device to a Verizon corporate store which, as I stated, can create an issue for some people.

Please do us all a favor and climb down off your "let's be rational" high horse before you injure yourself.

Actually its not illegal, ive already been provided a return shipping label for my Note 7 due to the excessive mileage from my home to a corporate store.

Actually it is on an official recall. If the shipping company knows the contents they will refuse to ship it. Also if something happens to said plane and the phone was the cause you will be the one going to jail for it as you were the sender.

There's a reason why even the feds says to it to stores specifically...

This is truly remarkable. If the battery is benign then why all this drama? This is unbelievable. Perhaps someone will shed some light on how a device that know to explode is safe to ship by a common carrier.

This is not meant to deny the folks in remote locations their exchange. I would like to know the logic and please dont tell me that turning the gizmo OFF is adequate. Any bump in the right place could turn it ON and then what.

One more time, batteries in phones that are off are not a danger, why you can still take your Note 7 on a crowded airliner SO LONG AS IT'S OFF. Verizon doesnt want the extra costs of shipping and their customers can pound sand

This is a fluid situation and the Feds, Verizon, Samsung, USPS, Fed Ex and UPS are all trying to find a safe and workable solution. Have to give them time to sort out the details.

Note7 has garnered special attention consequently special shipping and handling rules are being put in place. All this started a week maybe 10 days ago. It is truly amazing how quickly the bureaucracy has moved to help the consumer.

I came to this forum to sort out what was best option for me to replace my Note7. This has been answered so I am all set.
