Cant find a way to disable outgoing server authentication in SMTP Server Settings

My ISP email service does not require outgoing authentication. However, in SMTP server settings, I see no option not to use outgoing authentication (as in the prevous version of the droid operating system). If I fill out the information in outgoing settings I get an authentication error. If I simply leave the username and password feild empty I get the same error. The previous version had an option for not using outgoing authentication.

Anyone have a solution to this?

Here are the available settings for your outgoing server. Hope this helps!

From the home screen, touch the applications tab (located on the bottom of the display).
Touch Settings.
Touch Accounts.
Touch the email account.
Touch the setting:
Outgoing server
Outgoing server
Verify the outgoing server settings.
- SMTP server
- Port
- Username
- Password
If required, verify Use secure connection is checked.
Use secure connection is enabled if a green check mark is present.
If required, ensure Verify Certificate is checked.
Verify Certificate is enabled if a green check mark is present.
Touch Ok.

So the new versoin of Android OS requires authentication for the outgoing server then?

Try un-checking Use secure connection. Hope this helps!

I ran into this as well today and called Verizon, which transferred me to Motorola, which transfdered me to tier 2 support. Their work around is to install a 3rd party email called K-9 Mail. I installed that and it DOES have to option to not use SMTP authentication.

This resolves the issue until Motorola can fix the problem in the standard Mail client.
