mobile network not available

I have recently begin receiving "Mobile Network Not Available" message on my phone and unable to use the phone or text. This is happening in areas where I have always had access in the past. I replaces batty but it did not help. I have never had a problem with my phone, which I love and want to keep, in the past. Do I need to change service providers (go to AT&T?), is that the problem? I need to have at least phone access, it's the reason I have it!
