Unlimited Texting Plans

I have been a Verizon Wireless customer for over five years now - my parents for even longer. I am currently listed on my parents' family plan for an additional $10 for the line. The problem comes in with text messaging. I utilize text messaging frequently and there is no plan to accomodate for it. The texting plan that would fit me best would be an unlimited plan, but Verizon does not allow unlimited texting unless it is added to every line on the account. My parents do not text, ever, but I don't see why that should prohibit the one phone line in the family who does utilize texting.

Why is there not an unlimited texting plan? It is expensive paying the per-message fee when I go over my text message limit.

The reason they do the unlimited for all lines of the account is because the unlimited texting comes at the plan level, as opposed to the feature level, and so actually is more beneficial to the customer to have it for all lines (as it would more than likely be $30 per line for completely unlimited texting anyway) so they do us all a favor and make the whole plan unlimited instead of charging us by line. Heck, I used to text all the time and ended up on a select plan, now my fiancee and I are on the same account and I haven't used texting in forever, and neither has she...but for some reason we both stay with unlimited in case of emergency.

Second what ninja stated above. I assume you're on the maximum per line messaging plan of $20 a month with 5,000 out of network/domestic messages and unlimited mobile to mobile messaging. If you message more than that, my question to you is how to you have time for anything else? :smileytongue:

Sounds like you need your own plan. You can spin your line off the family share onto a Select Plan but still stay on your parent's account. If mom or dad get an employee discount already, then your individual line will be discounted -- usually by 10 to 15%. The Nationwide 450 minute Select Plan is $59.99 a month. Considering that every message over your messaging plans' allowance is $0.10 each, and you pay $10 a month for a secondary line on your parents' share plan, it would only take 500 domestic messages over your allowance to equal the $50 difference between plans. Consider the alternative that mom and dad would not be to pleased with you to get a $100 usage charge or higher on their bill because you went over your text plan.

I agree with cstrait - if you are already paying the $20 for the max texting plan on your line, then why not use the $20 to bump up to the Select family plan, which would put unlimited texting on all the lines? You could drop your per line plan, pay the same $$, and get unlimited on all lines. If your parents do not text, that's ok--you more than make up for it!! And who knows, once it's available, they may use it more than you think! (Speaking from experience, as a parent who thought she would never text either.....)
