Why can't I see anything on my device when I connect it to my PC?

When I connect my Galaxy 7 Edge to my computer the phone shows up but there are no internal storage or SD card folders.  How to remedy this?

Once you connect the phone and computer with the USB cable, pull down the notification shade, tap where it says USB Charging, and change it to File Transfer.
