Frequent Wi-Fi disconnects after Android 7.0 upgrade

I've had an Samsung S7 since late December. It worked flawlessly on Android 6.x. Now I am on 7.0 as of late last week, including the QA4 patch, and Wi-Fi is now frequently disconnecting and reconnecting at home. I have two networks with similar but not identical names (one is an extender in the kitchen) and it keeps flopping back and forth. No changes were made on the internal network in the house and the native router is on the latest firmware version from ASUS.

I recall going through this exercise with an early Android 6 version on my old LG G3 and it took Verizon months to fix the problem with an update, if I recall correctly. I am hoping that's not the case here. I have not seen any other issues with this phone since the upgrade - only this Wi-Fi disconnect problem.

It doesn't sound like VZW has fixed the wifi problem with the original Nougat version. Just another reason to delay installing Nougat until all the issues have been fixed. Thanks to all you contribute to the S7 community. Were it not for these posts, we wouldn't know about the problems caused by major systems updates like Nougat.

Let me add a little more:

Here in the office, where the company provides wi-fi for personal devices, I have no issues at all. None and there are a number of networks available out there.

At home there are two SSIDs where the first 15 or so characters are identical because the second network simply has "_EXT" attached to the end of it, since the default name came from the main network. That said, this wasn't a problem in Android 6 on this phone and no other devices in the house have this issue of constant disconnects and reconnects.

I have reset the extender while also resetting the router and modem again. Right now, things are holding steady but I haven't been on the second floor much. Let's see how things go the rest of the week. The My Verizon app is not set up on my system so I will hold off on using that software unless it's absolutely necessary. It's actually the first 13 characters of both SSIDs that are identical at home.

Everything was fine at home last night so I am calling this "Issue Resolved". Thanks for your help. I don't know if resetting the extender (removing from wall and putting back in) was the fix or the second reset of the main wireless router, but everything is fine now.

I found privacy and security app that came on my phone was the problem, I went in and turned off web security, and boom everything worked

You've gotta love that it's a VZW app causing the issue. I had the same problem.
