Why Can't I Do A Factory Reset On My Phone?

I have an adroid maxx 2 and had not troubles for about three months. Then my memory storage became over full. I lost some functitons and

resorted to dumping uneeded data. I then tried the factory data reset, however the soft key to initiante that was apparanetly not working .

Anyone know what I can do? Thanks
