Yahoo Email On Droid

I noticed when I troed to add my yahoo email account to the Droid I always get the message that I have entered an invalid name or password and I tried it several times. I also see it says that some yahoo email cannot work with the droid. Well I have the basic free yahoo so I am not understanding which yahoo accounts will and will not work on the Droid, Anyone know anything about this? Thanks.

Go to manual setup > IMAP account and change to these settings....

Imap server - imap.mail.yahoo.com

(SMTP server will be on the next page)

SMTP Server- smtp.mobile.mail.yahoo.com

MAKE SURE YOU HAVE WIFI DISABLED

This also worked for me; I too had to turn off wi-fi. I tried it several times before I turned off the wi-fi and I wouldn't work. I turned the wi-fi off and it still wouldn't work the first 4 times I tried it. I finally made sure the wi-fi was off then I turned the phone off and back on. When the phone came back on I tired it again and it completed the process with no problem.

I've setup my yahoo mail account this way, and mail is coming in, but even after I read it, a few minutes later it is back marked as unread. Any ideas?

This happened to me too. I had to power down the phone and then power it back up. As soon as i did that, I was able to get it set-up.

This process didn't work for me. It says my user name or password is wrong, but I've done it numerous times and I know they're correct.

I'm not getting to the SMTP option because I get the error after inputting the IMAP server name. Am I the only one?

Yea, I tried over and over at setting up my yahoo email on my Droid and kept getting "Invalid username/password" and I tried with and without @yahoo.com. I finally gave up and called yahoo tech support and what I put in my above post was what they told me. This was on Monday of this week. Unless people are finding other ways to setup their yahoo mail on their droid, yahoo said I had to upgrade to the Plus account. Needless to say, I was bummed out cuz I have used my yahoo email for over 15 years.

Same here I got my phone 5 days ago and have been trying to get yahoo mail on my phone ever since and can't do it. Not upgrading to yahoo mobile however, I'll just look it up on my browser.

I got my phone on Nov 16, I set up my Yahoo Accounts just like it said in earlier posts and it worked fine (well, mostly) until about 2 days ago. Now I don't get my Yahoo mail on my phone. I just logged into my account this morning and saw that I had like 15 emails that never went to my phone! Does anyone know if the changes that AFguy is talking about are affecting the manual way that the email was set up? So far REALLY unhappy that this phone is so horrible with Yahoo accounts.

Why are you REALLY upset with the way the Droid is handling yahoo email? It's not the phone it's Yahoo as they control the servers.

It is because it is Google's OS. I have no problem getting my yahoo mail on my TP2 Windows Mobile device. Also, iphone users can get their yahoo mail easily as well. What's next, a Yahoo branded phone, or yahoo OS. This is crazy how things are evolving.

I used the setting mentioned and am still able to get my yahoo mail on my droid as of 12-5-09. Yesterday the phone did lock up and had to pull the battery to reset it, after the reset yahoo mail was gone, but I was able to reinstall it and its working.

got yahoo to work on droid but cant sign out. when i manually set it up i checked must sign in block. turned phone off and on still logged on.

also does anybody know how to change gmail accounts on droid. veizon rep created one and i want to delete that and create new one

Thank you. I have been trying to say that all along, but people are finding some way to add their yahoo mail, and then coming to this forum complaining that it isnt woking correctly.

Follow these directions exactly:

1. Make sure Wi-Fi is turned off.

2. Press the E-Mail icon (the default Android E-Mail application). If you already have an account for this icon, add another account.

3. Enter your Yahoo E-Mail address and password.

4. Press "Manual Setup" in the lower left hand corner.

5. For "Incoming Server Settings" set the IMAP server to "imap.mail.yahoo.com" and the Port to 143.

6. For "Outgoing Server Settings" set the SMTP Server to "smtp.mobile.mail.yahoo.com" and the Port to 587

7. Check "Require sign-in" and press Next

8. Select how ofter your Droid will check for E-Mail, and choose default options.

9. Give the account a name and set your display name for outgoing messages.

My phone and my wives have both stopped sending or receiving email. I have restarted, took battery out deleted the email accounts, reentered them and still "invalid username and password". I dont get it.

i'm having the same issue on my motorola droid. bought the droid the day it came out and configured two different yahoo accounts,they have worked flawlessly until the last couple days. i read the post about needing yahoo mail plus but i have never had that and my mail worked fine,the article mentioned seems to only reference the htc eris and not the motorola droid. secondly my mail seems to work sometimes and then just all of a sudden stop again,i keep getting a connection error or it says my username and password are incorrect. it seems i'm not the only person having this issue, if anyone has solved this issue or has any ideas please share with the rest of us poor souls. if i need to purchase yahoo mail plus then i will but would like confirmation this is true before doing so. thanks for any help anyone may have.

It is an issue that Yahoo does not want you to be able to setup your Yahoo mail on the Droid unless you purchase the Mail Plus for $19.99 per year. I think they are only doing this because it is Google's operating system. My Touch Pro2 and Blackberry Storm devices have never had an issue with my yahoo mail. As far as it once working and now it isnt, Yahoo is probably making changes to their servers that is blocking us from being able to successfully get our free email to work on the droid. It sucks!

Just a quick follow up. After trying unsuccessfully many times to set up yahoo email, it finally worked for me earlier today. Well, it seems to be short lived. Now yahoo email has stopped responding and it tells me in the mailbox "invalid username/password", even though I've made no modifications. Oh well, it was cool for 1/2 a day. LOL

Droid does not get Yahoo e-mail. How about putting that in an ad.

I have tried again and again. Worked for the first one month. I have a Drod Eris too. Yahoo mail isn't working on that either. Tried teh imap/smtp setup. Still doesn't. Its an Android issue. I am not paying any more money to get a Yahoo Plus account. As is I am paying through the nose for two data plans.

Droid Sukz !! If Yahoo can do it to Google, why is Google still alowing the Gmail widget on Yahoo page to work. Yahoo is waiting to be sued.

I set up my Yahoo e-mail when I got my Eris back in mid-November. It took me a bunch of tries but I finally got it to work. I do get all new e-mails and when I delete on either the PC, it does sync up with the other. It's not perfect though. I can't access any of my mail folders from my phone. I can send and receive fine, but when I send, the sent mail doesn't appear in the sent folder of my phone or PC. I may bite the bullet and pay the $20/year.

This may sound **bleep**, and I don't know why it works, but shut off your wifi and you can get your yahoo email. I just registered for this forum, and my confirmation email showed up almost instantly to my yahoo account on my droid. Hope this helps.

I've struggled with Yahoo mail on my Droid since I got it last week. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. More often than not it tells me "Invalid username/password" but at least once a day it still syncs up and gets all my mail, although if I try to reply to any of it I get the same error.

After reading the thread, the only thing that worked was REBOOTING the phone. I deleted the account, rebooted and put the account back in using the steps at the beginning of the thread and that fixed things. I don't know how long it will continue to work, hopefully I don't need to do this every day to keep it working.

I think the bottom line is there's something wrong with Android 2.0 or the Droid itself because I haven't seen any threads on this issue with pre-2.0 Android phones. Additionally setting up Yahoo mail on pre-2.0 is as easy as entering your email address and password, no need to manually configure IMAP. Clearly 2.0 or the Droid haven't gone through the same level of integration development for 3rd party email systems.

I've got three more weeks left on my 30-day return period so I'll wait to see if the Yahoo mail mess stabilizes and if it continues to be a problem, I'll just return the phone and go back to my Tour. Hopefully it won't come to that, maybe I can throw around my VIP account status a little to get some results from VZW.

I got my yahoo email to work only after setting it up manually, turning off wifi AND rebooting. But it only worked for a few days. Now nothing I do can get it to work, even deleting account and setting everything up manually again! This just makes me ticked at yahoo and want to switch to g-mail completely!

Really weird that there are so many different experiences. Yahoo mail (free version) has worked perfectly for me since day 1, which for me was Nov. 9. The only time Yahoo Mail doesn't recognize my name and/or password is when I am connected via Wifi. As soon as I turn off Wifi, everything works great again.

I managed to get Yahoo set up successfully using the IMAP to begin with, then it stopped working like everybody else's.

Here's what I did to get it to work.........In my Yahoo mail settings, I temporarily set my account to be from "Asia", which does not charge to access email from other methods. Then I set up the account on my Droid, after it worked a few days, I changed my account back to U.S. setting.

Voila! Hope this works for some of you.

I've been connected to Yahoo Mail since I got my Eris, but the capabilities are limited. Even though I have had my Yahoo e-mail for 10 years now, I've decided to switch to Google. It isn't worth the hassle. Overall Google is better and I can get all of the benefits from my mail account instead of being limited with how Yahoo has neutered their mail with Android. I will monitor, but not use, my Yahoo mail for the foreseeable future. I have a vacation notice advising anyone who sends me mail, of my new Gmail account. I figure after 6-8 months, most of the important stuff will have changed over.

Here is a solution: Go to yahoo mail, go to Options (upper right corner), deactivate "Save a copy of the message in the Sent folder". Duplicate problem solved but you will not have a saved sent mail. You can cc to yourself and move the email to the Sent folder if you really want to save it.

This problem is happening to me as well. Sometimes Yahoo IMAP works on the Droid and sometimes it doesn't. My only half fast solution was to bookmark Y Mail in the browser.

My biggest problem is when all my account settings get deleted out of nowhere.

Just the other day, all my e-mail account settings got deleted ... POOF ... gone. I set all my accounts back up (and had to setup the Yahoo account a few times to get it right...username/password invalid errors).

With all accounts set up, there is now a serious indexing problem of some kind. I click on one message and a completely different message opens. The header information is from the message I clicked, but the body of the message is another message, sometimes from another account. To make things worse, it's not repeatable. If I go back and open the message three or four times, the right one finally opens.

I only have a few apps on the phone. I have read other messages where people are uninstalling the same apps I have and the deleted settings problem still occurs.

I really loved this thing until this problem. And to think, I bought out of my old provider's contract to get into a Droid. Very frustrating.

I just figured out for mine. I have att but the server is yahoo.

go to email on droid

add account

enter email and password

manual set up

pop3 account

when you enter your username you must include the entire email address not just the beginning (i.e. @.........net/com etc.)

incoming pop3 server (if you have att) is : pop.att.yahoo.com (or you can find what your settings must be in your yahoo email server settings in your mail options account)

IF you go to your email account (yahoo, att etc.) and click on mail options and find the page for email server settings) should be under Article/FAQ # kb401570

it will list all the information you need to enter into your droid when doing setup.

you will have to manually add in incoming server, outgoing server, full email address, incoming port # and outgoing port#

In the Android Market I just found a new app for Yahoo Mail that will automatically turn wi-fi on and off to check yahoo mail. It is called ROID.
