Hello, I live in Tampa Florida 33625. Service around my home is poor and I’ve noticed throughout most of the city unless I’m downtown I have mediocre and slow service. I rarely have more than 1 or 2 bars of LTE service and if I have 5G it’s usually slow (again unless I’m downtown) and 99% of the time the second I walk into any building I never have 5G service. That issue happens in literally every part of the country, which I read is an issue with Verizon 5G. What’s the point of having 5G if I have to stand outside to use it. Network upgrades are definitely needed for speeds. I have been trialing the T-Mobile network and their speeds are normally faster across the board, especially inside buildings which is probably the most important. Verizon really needs to take a look at upgrading network speeds across the board and making 5G more reliable inside a building.

I tried out T-Mobile too, but I had the opposite experience of yours, where my signal strength died as soon as I went indoors, and although my 5G light was on about 80% of the time, my 5G speeds were consistently slower than what I can get through Verizon's 5G! Because there are a lot of different factors affecting how a carrier's service can perform, no carrier can have the exact same service everywhere. In the end, it's important that your phone or other device using the wireless network does what you need it to, so if someone else is able to provide better service, it's time to port. Good luck. 🙂

Totally understand that no cell phone company will ever be perfect everywhere BUT I have been able to trial t-mobile side by side with my Verizon service and my data speeds are generally much slower UNLESS I’m in or around downtown Tampa or major areas like universities where I have very fast speeds (outdoors) as soon as I step in a building I lose my 5G UW service 90% of the time. I was just in the middle of Boston and I had full bars outside but stepped in a restaurant and couldn’t send a text message and had 1 bar of LTE. Now I haven’t really been making phone calls with my t-mobile trial so that could be lacking but everything is data based nowadays.
I am just surprised that Verizon’s 5G is so limited and the LTE, while spread out, is capped at 1-2 bars (generally speaking of course not 100% of the time) I really have wanted to be on the Verizon network for years as I was with AT&T for a while but I’m not really as impressed with the “30 JD Power awards boasted network”. I’m just hoping some updates are in the works.

Bnlongfellow We thank you for your feedback regarding your network experience. We strive to provide the best service and that has not been the case with your experience. 5G UW is a great and fast connection, however it can be disrupted when going inside a building. Have you had signal in this area before? Have there been any changes to your device? ~Peter

Yes, I have signal, it’s just limited data speeds especially with 5G inside a building.

Thank you for he info. Would it be possible to run a speed test so we can take a look at what data speeds you're working with? Easiest way to do this would be to Google "speed test" and use the one provided there.

this is at my house outside, LTE is better for sure. Downtown Tampa I have amazing speeds but, I don’t see those speeds anywhere else

Also, my service jumps from three bars to one bar and back every so often, I assume connecting to different towers. Why is my service slower when I have three bars?

Bnlongfellow, thank you for sharing those speed test results with us. We understand how important it is to have fast, reliable service. Does this seem to happen all the time at your home or only during certain days/times? Has this always been an issue in this location or a recent change?

This is pretty common in or around my house. If I’m 100% outside, it can be a little better but my service fluctuates a lot again I’m assuming it’s jumping from tower to tower. Tech support mentioned there is a 5G tower and an LTE tower almost equal distance but sometimes I’ll have three bars and nothing loads and then sometimes it’s okay. Inside my house it’s extremely poor but I guess it is what it is. If I drive 100 feet to the main road I have 4-5 bars of 5G UW. I guess all the “trees” from the road to my house cause a bunch of network degradation.

Perhaps the towers close to your home don't actually have mid- or high-band 5G and your phone is trying to access 5G UW no matter what. Have you tried using the OpenSignal app to see where the towers are actually located and what type of service they have?
Of course, if Pink Logo Place has been performing better for you in the test drive, it's your money assuming you don't have a contract or "device contract" (stick with Verizon for 36 months or whatever until your device has been paid off via the monthly credits). 😉 I will tell you from personal experience though: Don't port your number to them at the end of a month. They bill your first month as a whole month regardless of whether you joined at the 1st or the 31st of the month! My experience with them turned out to be less than great, and I ported back to Verizon in just 4 days. Found out after the fact about how they do their postpaid customer billing and because I'd started service on December 30th, my bank account was drafted for a full month's service (😲) for December. Yesterday, got a "final bill" in the mail from them saying I owed them more money for the 2 days in January! (Wait, I was only there for 4 days, and you want more money after I paid you for a whole month already?) After wrangling with a CS rep overseas yesterday whom I'm not sure understood exactly what I was trying to say, I *think* the billing issue got fixed...

I honestly don’t want to go through that process and I like Verizon customer service generally but it kind of stinks having horrible service at my house but it might be just a “it is what it is” type of thing. They aren’t going to build a new tower just for me lol
my phone doesn’t have the capability to pick towers, and my cellular settings are set to “5G auto” so it’ll pick up 5G if it’s strong enough or it will stick with LTE.

You can get a network extender from Verizon, or install a 3rd party cell phone signal booster system in your home to improve your signal strength indoors.

Thanks for the visual, Bnlongfellow. Have you ever been able to use your service as normal around your home area? Do you happen to know if other users are affected as well? You mentioned that you are seeing issues with data speeds. Are voice calls and/or text impacted too?

There were a few weeks back in September/October where calls were dropping but that seems to be resolved.

Less than 10 Mbps down on "5G UW"? There's no way that's actually 5G UW. It's like your phone is displaying the symbol because it doesn't want to tell you it's running in 4G LTE. You said in an earlier post your network band settings are on 5G auto. Is there another one which is just automatic whatever band (I think the wording varies depending on the phone, but an option which is for automatic 3G/4G/5G band selection, so the phone will pick the strongest signal of whatever's around)? Because I'm wondering if the reason why your data speeds are wonky is because the phone is only running in 5G mode and "faking" it when true 5G isn't available for whatever reason.

Yes, 5G auto means it’ll pick 5G if it’s available if not it’ll pick LTE. If I turn off 5G sometimes LTE is faster and sometimes it basically is like I have no service lol like in my house I’ll have 1 bar of 5G and nothing loads so I’ll turn off 5G and my LTE will work better and then I move 10 feet and it’ll show three bars of LTE and it won’t load anything. It’s very very inconsistent
if I change the settings to run 5G only even if I had 5G a few seconds ago it just stays on LTE haha it makes no sense.

Thanks for that information, I'm glad to hear the calling issue was resolved. Have you ever been able to use your service as expected around your home area? Do you know if other users are also affected?

Define “as expected” I have three bars of 5G uw standing outside my front door and did a speed test with horrible results. My service is so slow but shows three bars. If I walk away from my house is goes to two bars of LTE and works better. I think you guys really need to check out the towers around this area.

bad speed test taken right outside my front door. Inside the service is even worse even if I have two or three bars of LTE
