Backup assistance is not sync my contacts

I am having a problem with backup assistance updating my Incredible. I see the backup assistance app on the phone. When I try to sync it does not update my contacts. I also tried to Bluetooth the contact from my BB Tour to the Incredible, with no success. Can some help? Thanks

explain to me what this backup assistance thing is?

if you have a gmail account, your contacts should be synced with that account automatically, or at least every time you sync your phone to your gmail account. so there should be no need to have assistance.

check your gmail contacts, if all is well, then all is well.

yes, but if your next phone doesnt' have the "google" option, how in the world do you get the contacts back? We usually order our phones online, as dealers are not that close and/or can not transfer numbers for us.
