Google Voice - anybody using this on their droid?

So far I love this app by Google. It seems there are still some bugs for them to work out but the audio to txt translation is just so handy to use sometimes not to mention you can archive voice mails and NEVER need to delete them! Anybody else using Google Voice?

I will be when my Droid arrives this afternoon. I set up Google Voice, Google Mail, and Google Calendar last month.

I'm using GVoice to handle my voice mails. Not brave enough to switch it to use my number yet. Love it. Does a decent job on the transcription.

I stopped using Google Voice this morning. I wasn't totally happy with it. I'm still using Google Mail and Calendar.

I have it, and don't use it as much as I should. I oft give it to people who I don't know very well.

Just got it and I love it. However, I'm trying to figure out the most efficient way to have calls coming to my mobile number forwarded to my google voicemail instead of vzw mail. Any advice on this. With this last tweak the service would be perfect.

When I set mine up originally it took over VZW voice mail. Did you activate the phone? It will be under your settings if you are logged in on your computer in the google voice application. Try that.

Ahhhhh. Thanks Tornado. Such an easy and obvious solution. I was wrapped up in some of the older blogs on web where people were discussing conditional forwarding settings etc. This did the trick. Now I have to mess around with it to see if I can get VM to pick up on fewer rings.

You guys got my interest up on this...until I read all the comments on the Android market. It would appear that complaints outnumber praise about 5 to 1. I'm thinking I'll pass on this one.

I only see two possible advantages to using Google Voice. If you have multiple telephones and telephone numbers, you could have all of them forwarded into Google Voice and from there to your Droid so you could get all of your calls on one phone. Secondly, you can log onto Google Voice and send fee SMS messages from your computer. I was going to do that, but I went ahead and signed up for 250 messages for $5 per month.

I've been using Google Voice since I got my Droid and I love it. I use my Google Voice # as my work number. Then I have my calls routed to both my cell and office, so I never miss a call. Even when I work at home. It also allows me make work calls using my Google Voice # from my cell or home phone, so clients only have one number. That, in turn, allows me to route calls on a contact by contact basis. Some calls go right to voicemail, some get a personalized voicemail message, etc...

Also, I have my home phone routed to another Google Voice account that then forwards the call to both my cell phone and my wife's cell phone. It has allowed us to eliminate our home phone system. As soon as Google gets number portability, we'll move our home phone # to Google.

In most cases, I think that people that don't like gVoice, don't know how to configure it for their needs. Every person that I have shown my configuration to has begged me for an invite.

I also use and like Google Voice. I don't use the Android app. And I don't use the Google number, only my own. I have the voice messages on my computer which is pretty handy. My only minor complaint is that the voice-to-text translations aren't so good sometimes. But I can usually get the gist of the message. And I get a text message and an email of the voicemail.

I hadn't thought of using the Google number as a work number, or in my case, a house number when I don't want to give my mobile number out. However, I have my system in place and working well, I'll leave it for now.

I use Google Voice on my Droid and it works great... Transcription is mediocre but I get the gist of each message and rarely have to listen to the message after I read it... Saving messages and not wasting minutes on retrieving voice mail as well as getting access from computer or phone is great... Have yet to choose the Google Voice number because I have many colleagues that are on Verizon

and we all get free mobile to mobile calling and that would cost them and me (Family plan) money... Otherwise voice is a great addition...

How is anyone using google voice?

I have tried to request an invite since I got my droid over a month ago, and no response.

I downloaded the app, but it won't validate, I guess, since I have not received an invite?

Can anyone assist?

First post so hello!

Anywho...

I use it for my voicemail PLUS its a number I can give to peple who i dont want to have my cell number.

It is an out of network call for that time it gets forwarded, but I solved that issue by adding my GV number to my Friends and Family list. Now, it is in network for me.

I like the transcription. Its not the best, but it lets me know if I need bother check my voice mail at that time. I also, as previously noted, can archive my messages forever. I can listen to then online or on my phone, I can sms from the online app and have it show my number or the V number.

There are SO many things I use it for.

Ive never needed to download the app from the market. TBH, didnt know there was one. I have been using GV for years and was stoked when they offered it as a voicemail replacement as I had been using youmail before that, Im a google girl tho and like having everything tied together.
