I'm using GVoice to handle my voice mails. Not brave enough to switch it to use my number yet. Love it. Does a decent job on the transcription.

I stopped using Google Voice this morning. I wasn't totally happy with it. I'm still using Google Mail and Calendar.

I have it, and don't use it as much as I should. I oft give it to people who I don't know very well.

I only see two possible advantages to using Google Voice. If you have multiple telephones and telephone numbers, you could have all of them forwarded into Google Voice and from there to your Droid so you could get all of your calls on one phone. Secondly, you can log onto Google Voice and send fee SMS messages from your computer. I was going to do that, but I went ahead and signed up for 250 messages for $5 per month.

Sounds like everyone is putting Google Voice and Google Number together. Voice is just the application, Number is a new number that you can have all your phones linked to. I only applied for Google Voice. What this does is take over your current VZW voicemail application and uses the Google Voicemail. These are top advantages I like with GV:
1. You can remove the required password to log into your voicemail.
2. GV translates the audio into text, but still gives you the ability to listen to the audio if you want.
3. Now I never have to delete a voicemail, I can just archive the messages just like in Gmail! (this is the greatest advantage in my opinion)
4. Then there is the actual visual application of being able to use on your computer which is convenient to have. I dont have to log into some audio only message system to see or hear my messages.

Actually Google Voice is the Google application that allows you to do all of those things including forwarding phones to one number, etc. I tried the voice mail and didn't like it.

I have used it off an on with my Droid Eris, and I have an issue with using my google voice number.
If I have my family use the google number, and they call me with, now it is considered out of network call. If I call using google number will be a out of network call also? I think it is too. I think I can only use the google number to non verizon customers calling me and them calling them. It looks like I still have to use two numbers, which is what I did not want to do. When making a call with google voice app, does it make the call with the data connection like a voip call and does not use the voice connection?
If someone knows how this works, I would welcome a response. I asked the Verizon representative and they were not sure how it works.

How is anyone using google voice?
I have tried to request an invite since I got my droid over a month ago, and no response.
I downloaded the app, but it won't validate, I guess, since I have not received an invite?
Can anyone assist?
Thanks
Eki

First post so hello!
Anywho...
I use it for my voicemail PLUS its a number I can give to peple who i dont want to have my cell number.
It is an out of network call for that time it gets forwarded, but I solved that issue by adding my GV number to my Friends and Family list. Now, it is in network for me.
I like the transcription. Its not the best, but it lets me know if I need bother check my voice mail at that time. I also, as previously noted, can archive my messages forever. I can listen to then online or on my phone, I can sms from the online app and have it show my number or the V number.
There are SO many things I use it for.
Ive never needed to download the app from the market. TBH, didnt know there was one. I have been using GV for years and was stoked when they offered it as a voicemail replacement as I had been using youmail before that, Im a google girl tho and like having everything tied together.
