How to turn off text message notification

I got Handscent SMS and I was wondering if there was any way to turn off the standard droid Eris notification and just leave the handscent one. Thanks for any help ive been searching through my phone and couldnt find anything

You need to open the stock messaging app then touch Menu->Settings. You can then change the notification options.

To add to this, if you have not done so already, you may want to go into People and choose a contact and select Send Message...A box will pop up asking you to choose a default message application for future txt's.
