Kindle/Nook on droid 2

Are they any good? Other than the screen size being way smaller on the phone compared to just having the Kindle or Nook, is everything else pretty much the same? Just wondering if I should save my money and just use the kindle or nook apps on my phone.

I believe the kindle app was preinstalled.

I have the nook and the nook app. I use both equally. That or the aldiko app (ereader).

Interesting, I guess I just find it a bit weird that they would offer both for free on the phones. Yes, kindle was pre installed and I had to download nook. Guess now I just have to figure out if I want the feel of a book and buy a nook or just use my phone. Since you have the nook- is it better to have that so I am not constantly using my phone battery? Is the battery life on the nook better? Thanks so much for answering!

Since I usually keep my nook in airplane and I surf the web WAY to much on my phone, the battery life is quite long on the nook. I have to plug my phone almost every night like it is now

. I think I may have gone two weeks once or twice with it unplugged for the nook. I sometimes forget it's there when I working through my pile of physical books to read. One of other reasons I got the nook, there is only so much room for shelving books in my house.

I do like the size of screen for reading on the nook and the ability to read in full sun. If I am traveling and didn't drag the nook along I use the nook app on my phone. The latest software update for the nook and the application allows for syncing your B&N library of books between the two. The backlight is also nice with the app on phone for reading at night especially if you setup a night mode (white text on black background).

I did try the kindle app when it first released but I didn't have any kindle books to test it out. What little bit I could get through didn't impress me much. I am not exactly thrilled Verizon is preloading this app on the phones now. There are several ereader Apps in Market and highly downloaded and liked. Aldiko is one I use as well.

The Aldiko app and the nook app function very similarly so after having Aldiko on my phone before getting the actual nook and then nook app. It was very easy to learn to use. The bonus was all the free epub books I downloaded with Aldiko. I was able to copy them to my nook. I also had a bunch of pdf format ebooks from another location. Between both of those sources, I added over 250 books without buying a single book from B&N. On the nook app I can only see my B&N library, but I can side load all of those same books into a folder used by the app on my sd card. All B&N library books download to the sd card when you download them to have a local copy on the phone.

The only truly negative thing I can say about the nook app is the size of file. On the market it is listed as something in the 5 mb range. However it unzips to almost 17 mb. That shouldn't be a problem on the Droid 2, but on my "baby" Droid it's a lot!

Thank you so much for the wealth of information! I think I am going to buy a nook for hubby to give me for Christmas. I was holding out for so long because I like the feel of a book. But after having to once again figure out what to do with yet another box of books hubby just found, I am sold. I think it would be great to have both the phone appand the nook itself.

Kindle nor nook came with my Droid. I have downloaded kindle from the market though.

Kindle is a decent Android app. I think it works better on the iPhone, but it does the job. As for whether you should get a real reader or just use your phone, you should probably go with the real reader, because the screen size is better suited for serious reading. If you want to go cheap, you could always download the Kindle app for Mac or PC directly to your home computer. The advantage the e-readers (Kindle) will tell you they have is the e-ink technology. If you don't mind reading off an LED screen, then the actual Kindle reader has no major advantage over any other option you might have. So for the price, I would go with a Nook. Or for the versatility, I would go with the iPad, and get much closer to the functionality of a computer. But for serious reading, I don't think a smartphone is the best choice. Enjoy the Nook you bought for yourself AND are getting it from you hubby!

I have a Droid X, a nook, and an I pad. Love the I pad but when I don't have it on me I use Laputa to read on my phone great reader. I really like it. try it the app is free in the market. I like the nook because of the size and the I-pad because of the feel, it feels like your readlly reading a book. and I think Laputa does the same thing.
