Hears the link to read up on AVG Antivirus and download...

http://www.avg.com/ww-en/antivirus-for-android

The main thing I am confused with is that the app claims some of my contacted are infected and I am wndering if this is a False Positive already because I do not see how my contacts are infected?  Looks like I will be researching the files it identified as infected and see if it another False Positive report to get you to buy the full version.

It appears AVG have both apps listed on the market, the version I downloaded was the free one to test it, I am not going to fork over 10.00 for a app that I am unsure if it does what its suppose to.  I looked over the infoamtion on both and I do not really see why they have 2 versions because one has more security but they are the same price?

I am starting to think there is a website issue because the images is missing even in my log on and also the forum keeps showing the text layout instead of the full page even when i view it on my desktop.

Well I loaded the avg antivirus free and uninstalled lookout to test :smileysad:
The scan came up clean. I have to say I do like that it scans the sd card. Lookout never had that option. I have in the past whenever the phone was connected to the computer scanned it with the antivirus loaded on there.
The lost message could use improvements. It only gave me a selection of maybe 10 out of 200+ contacts to choose and even those half were listing their birthday as the phone number. NOT COOL!
Played with the scan settings, specifically for scan the sd card and selecting the folders. The application froze and ended up choosing "wait" a couple of times before force closing.
First impressions overall it's not a bad application, but it has places where improvement is needed.

Android is linux based.  The Anti-virus apps really are not necessary for an android device.  I have seen issues with my friends and family using anti-virus and it causing problems on the phone.

Here's what I would suggest:

Go ahead and download the antivirus app of your choice.  If you experience issues with your droid phone then uninstall it and see if it fixes the issue.

I use AVG on my home PC and trust it, so I would recommend that app for android if anything at all...

Linux kernel is designed to keep the system relatively secure but this is more of a common corp used software, since there is a number of users that also use the OS for home system increasing attacks is possible.  Since Android is running a custom kernel for the mobile world and has caught on like wild fire, I think we are going to see a growing need for hackers to see how far the can push the hacking envelope.

At this moment there isn't enough proof to show for sure how much good anti-virus will help but it seems that's its time to become proactive to protecting devices or we can easily see a ugly situation develop because if devices can be rooted with simply installing a simple wallpaper app, if the users don't take this a bit more seriously it can leave the device wide open to attacks.   False security is some time the biggest mistake because nothing create by man is uncrackable.

Things are starting to change.. I would not now be caught out with some sort of AV software.. The bad guys are on thier way now, especially if you are using 3rd party apps outside of the market

Anything is better than nothing...... get some anti virus software on your phone.

And for those of you that say it bogs your phone down????    What... a few seconds here and there?   When you get a Virus, let this forum know how much your productivty slowed then.....

fyi....i used avg for months with no issues at all. i suppose that it may have "bogged my phone down" a bit. when i would download and install an app, it would spend about 5 seconds scanning the app during the install. i can live with that.

Here is the strange thing, all my backup apks AVG wanted to delete them because they was reporting a security vulnerabilities, but what makes it funny they are apps from the Market that I just backed up to be able to restore without connecting to Market.... I'm thinking its because they are files requiring sideloading and AVG tries to have me disable that option also...

It just was to off for me because so many things was detected on my test unit that had nothing wrong with them... You haven't ran into this AZSALUKI?

no....but i've never actually "backed up" anything. all i've ever done is move apps to the sd card. i just switched phones so i was going to back them all up, until i realized that google and the market already knew which apps i had paid for. so instead of backing them up and restoring them, i just downloaded all of them when i got my new tbolt (i wanted to start with a fresh new sd card anyhow). to be honest, AVG has never warned me about anything. i was actually beginingt to believ that it just popped up and pretended to be busy....lol.

I have wiped my card and then backed up and as soon as I backup apps again AVG went acting up with messing with my files.  I run a unix server and a desktop running  Ubuntu and they do not see any issues with the files but AVG keeps FP on me and identifing files as infected or a vulnerability issue.

Oh well so far LookOut has been work good me for now..
