Unfortunately the ads are installed to run while you are browsing. The only time the ads are removed in the applications is if you purchase premium version in which it is offered. There is no other way to remove them.

Ads are added by the third party developers of the apps. This helps them offset the cost of development and updates as OS change and new options are added to the apps.
Some developers offer Premium PAY apps which remove the ads. However, Verizon has zero control over third party applications.

So in other words to remove the ads blocking the screen from games and so on we have to do without the app entirely. Is that correct?
I just upgraded from dumb to smart phone and had no idea that there would be ads floating into the screen blocking the viw of the game or other app. Not a happy camper at all here.

I don't know about games, but I have purchased a couple of apps specifically in order to avoid getting ads. If it only costs a dollar or two to buy the app, I figure, why not, if it means never seeing an ad?

This is the pleasures of wanting stuff for free, the developer needs to get something for their hard work also and the ads are their solution.. Your choice is to buy the app or simple not use it...

I have a dumb phone and can't even call out sometimes because the phone is searching for apps or running the weather. It's a little frustrating at times. Any solutions?

Can you explain more? What do you mean searching for apps and running the weather, I am not sure what you are referencing to.

I pick up the phone and want to dial out but there's an app search in progress which takes pushing the "end" button several times and about 30 seconds to finally stop running and let me use the phone for the purpose I purchased it which is talking or texting with people.
Alternately, I'll pick up the phone to use it and there's an offer to see today's weather channel. I'm not interested.
So I wonder if there's a way to stop this nonsense I am not interested in from taking my time.

Did the device always act in this manner because it almost sounds like its a app installed that has advertisement integrated into it but since its a basic phone I can suggest a solution because all devices are different.. Maybe if you supply the model number someone may have a suggestion how to resolve this.

It has behaved like this since I got the phone. It's an LG, model #UN251 (maybe the U is a V?).
My hunch is that it's Verizon putting their nonsense on the phone from the factory. ???

Hi Leanarto42!
Goodness Gracious! I can certainly understand your frustration with receiving unwanted ads. Let's get this fixed. I believe the ads that you are seeing are coming from a program called Daily Scoop. To disable this feature follow the Instructions below:
When canceling messages for Daily Scoop
1)Go to Media Center> Go to Apps> Launch Daily Scoop
2)Choose Menu
3)Choose Verizon Messages
4)Use arrow button on the keyboard to change radio button to "Off"// Press "OK" on keyboard// Press "Save"
5)Use same process to change Bonus Messages to "Off"
6)Screen will show a message that the changes were saved & changes go into effect w/in 24 hours
Keep us posted!
Thanks,
Pamelaf_vzw

Have you tried this that I found at http://www.askmefast.com/How_to_remove_bing_ad_from_LG_Cosmos-qna882306.html
Find your DISPLAY SETTINGS, click. Scroll to the bottom. Find SHORTCUT BIN. change it from "OFF" to "ON". (the icon will go from orange to green) go back to Home Screen. Instead of touching anywhere for your shortcuts, there will be a opaque arrow on the side of the screen. DRAG any undesired icon to the ARROW. it will go away! GOOD LUCK. most LGs are the same, so instructions for COSMOS, TOUCHES, CHOCOLATES, will be very similar, is not the same!

I've looked there now and there is no Shortcut Bin. Now what?
I still think Verizon is to blame and this is a sign of their inherent, corporate greed. My last, even dumber, phone didn't have these issues. Hmmmmm.

That was a shot in the dark for me because basic phones are so different and option are a little limited.... Sorry but I am not sure how to resolve your situation..
