Why does Verizon need to add lines to get iphone 16 promotion if I can still keep my old number?
Based upon the verbiage of the current promotions at the website as I write this post, would have to think your existing number doesn't qualify for those promos. My guess is this is a workaround for the promos formerly only being available to completely new customers.

As an existing customer, we currently have a promotion where you can get $1000 as trade-in credits towards the iPhone 16 pro on the Unlimited Ultimate plan.
