hi
I activated my new iphone 16 pro yesterday and it was working fine. Today the phone is stuck in sos mode and so are all of the other new phones on my account that were working yesterday. How do I get out of SOS mode?
If your iPhone is stuck in SOS mode, please use the steps in this FAQ to troubleshoot the issue:
Phone can't make calls FAQ
We have been a Verizon customer for 15 years or more. Cell phone service inside our home has never been good but in past was always able to go to certain areas of house and make and receive calls. Our phones are set to WiFi Calling. The past 3 months the service has all but disappeared. Now most of the time ‘no service’ or ‘SOS only’ even when connected to WiFi.
What did Verizon change in my area?
What can you do to get my coverage back?
Thank you for your loyalty all these years. We strive to provide reliable service and would like to help as soon asap. Please tell us a little more, what model is your device and is the software up to date? Do you have problems indoors or outdoors?

If you are unable to use Wi-Fi calling even, it's possible there's something going on with your ISP's router. Someone said in another thread they had to set their Wi-Fi to 2.4 GHz spectrum before they got their Wi-Fi calling to work. Another customer reported it was actually their ISP's Wi-Fi somehow interfering with the Verizon service and when they got a new router from their ISP, then they got their cellular service back.
If Verizon has always been kind of bad in your neighborhood, maybe it's time to port?
my new I phone 16 is stuck in SOS mode
Same! All 3 lines are in sos
i also have the same issue rn, might be an outage but i haven’t heard back from Verizon yet
Having the same issue right now with an iPhone 14 PRO. Just started today. My wife's phone is fine.
Same issue here but I am the only one of 4 phones in our family that it is happening too.
Yeah...that's not it. Nothing has changed at my house.
Our phones are stuck in SOS mode. As first responder definitely not OK! Please help

My iPhone 15 Pro Max is in SOS mode this morning. My co worker has a similar phone but is not on SOS mode. The only difference is his is still in IOS 17 and mine is IOS 18. Anyone having the same problem?
Have same problem. iPhone 15, iOS 18🤯
Yes 2 lines on our account are doing this this morning. No calls out. Text works on just a couple contacts!
I saw a news report that Verizon was having an issue with phones being stuck in sos. It said mostly the east coast, but we are in Oregon and have no service today. Texting was working a few minutes ago and now it doesn’t work. No way to call Verizon to report this without a phone!!
It's a nationwide issue. Everyone on my plan is experiencing the same. I googled Verizon service issue and a bunch of national news articles came up.
Our 2 iPhones are stuck in SOS. Our two androids (on the same plan in the same house) are working without issue.
Our iPhones are also stuck in SOS in Missouri
It's not just you. The forums just exploded in the last 30 minutes with iPhone users all reporting the same thing, and it is only affecting iPhones.
My iPhone 16 started doing the same thing this morning. Other iPhones with Verizon are working fine. Tried Apple support to no avail.
They should compensate for our time and troubles !
My entire family on my plan (3 iPhones and 1 Android) all out. Calling customer service via my landline and have been disconnected 4 times so far. I give up. Why is there no update on Verizon's website telling us what is going on and when the service is expected to return. I don't know where to go from here if their customer service cannot even be reached via phone.
Verizon is experiencing state wide outage. There is nothing u can do but wait.
I’m in California and have been stuck on SOS mode all morning. Can’t get a response via chat from the help center or make a call obviously. This is super frustrating
Same. I'm in the SF/SJ area, on a Android phone. First thought it was me, but a reboot did nothing. Been out since before 7am.
My 15 Pro has been stuck in SOS mode all morning. I have read the national articles and this issue seems to be nationwide.
Perhaps due to the severe storms in the southeast or maybe something else. Fingers crossed Verizon engineers can resolve the issue sooner vs later. Good luck everyone!
Hi! I’m currently In El Salvador and have been using my phone and up until an hour ago my internet just stopped working… not sure if it’s related to the SOS problem since I can still make normal calls but this is really odd
Personally I feel that anyone affected should get something for compensation. I pay high monthly fees for a service (phone service). So if that service is not provided then should I still pay every penny of that bill? Verizon is not honoring their end of the contract in providing service. Try going to work and working 7 out of 8 scheduled hours and see if you will be paid. All the outage and no notification from Verizon. Time to look for another carrier.
Same issue here in Santa Rosa, CA. Two of the three lines my family has are in SOS mode. My work phone and my wife’s phone are fine. Also, my wife’s phone is now getting my phone’s voice mails. Seems like no rhyme or reason to these issues, super annoying.
Me too, yesterday everything worked fine and today my smartphone does not accept Verizon at all. I have a new iPhone 16 Pro

SOS means there is no service. Verizon has a very large outage today affecting many people. It is not your phone
Unfortunately even WiFi calling didn’t work when on a WiFi network. Someone said you need some sort of network connection. If that’s the case it really isn’t WiFi calling and it defeats the purpose. Not good in emergency situations that require contacting someone other than 911.
has anyone heard of a restoration time? 6 out of my 8 lines have not worked since 9 am this morning. Sick of the SOS and that they have not given a reason for the outages all over the country. I am in Michigan .
Verizon should’ve sent mass message to inform customers of network issues. Found out by talking to rep at store. That’s why we’re in SOS mode until resolved.
Verizon customer service is the horrible. I am supposed to rely on this service to work that’s why I pay for it, but I was told I was “lucky” to have service since others didn’t. Truth is I am not lucky I pay for reliable service and didn’t get it today. They say they will prorate the amount of time my service was lost, but that doesn’t recover the amount of work productivity lost because of unreialabke service. That does not make customers want to stick around. I have never felt so disrespected when calling customer service time and time to only get hung up on. They didn’t post anything on their website nor did they give me a time I could expect my service to work. It’s time I start looking for a call service that wants to keep customers
Connect to WiFi and manually update software. I got service back right after update. iPhone 15. Settings, general, software update and update now

Wi-Fi Calling will require a Verizon network connection the first time it's being set up, Vuwildcat07. However, after the initial activation of Wi-Fi Calling, you will be able to use Wi-Fi Calling with or without access to the Verizon network.
