Spam text message reporting on iOS devices with iOS 26?

With iOS 26 and Messages app,  I see that unknown text messages go to the “Unknown Senders “ folder.  

And I just discovered if I hit Delete, I get a notification that I can delete and report spam, and it shows it gets reported to both “Apple and Verizon” (or Apple and carrier if I try on an older text message). 

Does this mean one doesn’t have to report spam to Verizon using 7726 and that Apple is now doing that for its customers?  If so, this should be good news and hopefully Verizon (and Apple) will use this info to help even more to reduce spam!
