Tempted to cancel my purchase expecting iPhone 17 Pro Max phones since 10/17

I converted 5 phones numbers over to Verizon on oct 3; 3 were for my kids and the phones were available in the store inventory for them to receive that day. Two phones (mine and my wife's) were iPhone 17 Pro Max phones that were backordered. My receipt says delivery due by October 17; It's October 22 and I've received no notice of status for the phones. When I check the web status all it says is what I already know - delivery expected on 10/17. I try to call but my phone number is not an active account since I'm still with my old provider (so I can't get past the automated system).
Very disappointed in the communication from Verizon, and I'm tempted to return the phones I have and switch back to my original provider. How do I get an update.
