Unable to clear old I phone 12 passcode

Am unable to clear passcode for Iphone 12 pro. I have a new Iphone 16 and before I send in old Iphone 12 pro I am supposed to clear it??? When I go to Face ID and Passcode it won't let me do it it prompts me for my apple id and password, I enter it and it will not connect to apple server. What do I do? will resetting Iphone clear the passcode?

Are you referring to a passcode to get past the screen lock on your phone? That wouldn't be hooked up to your Apple account, it's just something on the phone. I'd think removing the SIM card or deleting the eSIM and then doing a factory reset on the phone should erase things.
