I would like to get text messages without having to pay what I consider absurd prices for the Travel Pass. I am already paying for the US line while traveling so adding $12 or a day every few days to check does not seem right. We are talking about minimal data. MessagePlus used to work for everything except MFA but for some reason that was discontinued. Now my Verizon service us useless when traveling.
What are some options for getting texts only ( even just receiving) without activating Travel Pass. If there is no solution then it might be time to switch services so I am hoping there is a solution.
If you are not currently under a contract (device deal, get a free something, special discounted rate pricing for X months, trade-in to upgrade, etc.), you can upgrade your service plan to Unlimited Ultimate, which has built-in Travel Pass service included. Otherwise, I don't see a way around Travel Pass or paying for a month of the International Service Plan if you want to use your Verizon number abroad.
The other guys operate the same way, where the topmost service plan has some international service capability, but otherwise will bill you for international usage if you use your US phone number outside of the US.

We currently have our Unlimited Ultimate plan which includes international data, as well as the Travel Pass Plan Perk that allows you to accumulate 3 Travel Passes per month. If you have an iPhone, you could also remain on Airplane mode and while connected to WiFi, you can use iMessage and messengers to communicate with your loved ones at no extra cost. Hoping this information helps!
