Voicemails are disappearing on IOS. Apple is saying it’s a carrier issue. Carriers are saying Apple issue. Many people have this problem….just go look in Apple community forums to see. What’s going on? We have voicemails from deceased family members that can’t be replaced. Can someone please advise if these can be recovered or not?

We're sorry to hear that you're having problems with your voicemails disappearing. We don't want you to lose any important voicemails. You can use these steps to save voicemails for now: https://www.verizon.com/support/knowledge-base-223412/
Have you lost any voicemails yourself? If so, when did you start having problems?

I'm having this same issue - it started when I updated from IOS 16 to 17.4. I had all of my saved voicemails right before I updated and then after the update they all disappeared. Apple has given troubleshooting steps to inactivate the live voicemail and restart the phone. I've done that three times but still, my voicemails are gone.

I'm sorry you've been having issues with Apple voicemail. The first thing whenever there's a voicemail issue is, can you access them via *86 on your device? This is a good way to check if there's anything in the voicemail box outside of the app.

I'm having the same issues as the OP. I can access my voicemails when I press *86 but they will not show up on my iPhone XS, iOS 17. Apple says it's a carrier problem. Please advise. This is happening to a lot of people!

Thank you for all these details. Does this happen while connected to Wi-Fi? Are all apps up to date on your device? ~Geo

Yes all my apps are up to date and my iOS is 17.4
My voicemails do not show up in any form - not on wifi only, not on cellular only. I've restarted my phone several times.

Thank you so much for the details, jb8182. When was the last time that you were able to access voicemail on your phone? Does your phone show the voicemail tab at all under the Phone app?

In reviewing some Apple Support posts on the topic, one thing to check is by dialing *86 and accessing your voicemail the old fashioned way. The reason I ask this is, if you are able to access and confirm you have voicemails via this method, then it shows there's not an issue with the voicemail on the system end. It may be there's an issue with the Apple Visual Voicemail app/software, which as you can imagine we don't control.
I'd recommend first, dialing *86 and accessing your voicemail that way to confirm you have VM messages. Additionally, you can try calling your number and leaving yourself a voicemail message. If you are able to successfully do that, that confirms the system is working and some Apple users indicated their voicemails restored after that. Another suggestion I saw some users found success with was turning off Live Voicemail temporary. The steps to do that can be found here: https://support.apple.com/en-us/105066

Hi John,
Per my comment on this thread a few days ago "I'm having the same issues as the OP. I can access my voicemails when I press *86 but they will not show up on my iPhone XS, iOS 17. Apple says it's a carrier problem. Please advise. This is happening to a lot of people!"
and yes, i've turned off Live voicemail. I've done all the recommended troubleshooting. Apple says it's a carrier issue. I understand you want to turn the blame to them and it makes sense since I can hear my voicemails when I call *86. But it's obviously an issue with at least both parties.

I'm glad your voicemails are showing then under *86. That shows the VZ side of things is working, and the main issue here is a display one with Apple's Visual Voicemail. Apple is very protective of their products/services, and that limits what we can address in regards to them. I'd recommend confirming with Apple you've confirmed voicemails on the Verizon systems are showing and can be accessed through our process (*86). Since the voicemails are there and being recieved, my eight-years of smartphone/tech experince with them, points to this being an Apple software/system issue which they'll need to address further.
