Back Story: In 2022 after graduating college me and my girlfriend decided to move in together, in an appartment, in a brand new state. I was born in 2000 and she was born in 2001. So we were figuring out everything as we went. That being said I still paid every single bill on time the whole time we were threre. We moved out in July and i thought i had made my final payment on the account. After we moved into a new appartment in another different state I stopped by a verizon store with the router to turn it in and was told they didnt take back the routers. So I went on with life. Then in November I had a deer take out my car. I was trying to figure out my options when i saw a collection item on my credit report. I immedietally called verizon, made the payment, and asked if the collection item would be taken off my credit report. I was basically told it would be on there for 5 years because i was sent letters. Im assuming to the old appartment because i never updated my address with my old internet provider after the account was closed.
Now: Since then me and my now fiance are trying to plan our wedding and thinking about future things like buying a home after. But I can't even get approved for a credit card let alone any significate credit tools. If i cant get this removed then my life is basically ruined until it falls off in 3 years. If anyone has information on what i need to do, who i need to call or next steps i can take to get this done i would greatly appreciate it.
