Blackberry Tour Signal Issues ?

Have the Blackberry Tour and noticed that the phone has a problem holding a signal - even when you are in a strong signal area. If you watch the signal strenght indicator, it keeps fluctuating from 1X to 1XEV and from 1 to 4 bars of signal. Also while in Europe and using international access, this was also the case and I often was unable to answer the phone when I received a call. It would just disconnect. Although while international, I was able to place calls without a problem.

Thanks for the reply.
I heard the storm had the same issues but was fixed with an upgrade. I would think they would have resolved something like this before they released the Tour ! Let's see if they do.
Any word on a software upgrade yet ?

I just posted a thread regarding total inability to get a call made out in Chandler (three days running), even with full 5 bar signal. Verizon's message simply wanted to transfer me to an operator who would accept my credit card so I could make the call????? (I have a nationwide roaming plan).
I do also see the wavy signal - really quite often!!! We all need that OS update immediately!

Doubt its an OS issue. I saw it once made sure I was running 1XEV only and did a *228 option 2 and have not had it since.

I believe it is not your phone but the network. They switched their cell tower frequencies last month to accommodate Altel customers and after having 2 years of problem free signals I have been dropping calls in an area where I never had any problems.

Hey all,
As a Tour owner I am also concerned about this potential problem. I am in the Petal, Mississippi area near Hattiesburg. We are part of the Alltel now Verizon deal. I have had my Tour for a week now and so far no signal problems.
I have seen one thing on the Tour I was curious about. Under the Options>Mobile Network>I see Network Technology. I know this is for when I make my frequent trips to Paris (ha ha..never leave Mississippi hardly) and I want to use my Tour on 3G networks overseas. By default it was set to Global. I changed it to 1XEV on the first day and I wonder if this setting could be a source of potential problems for some users locking in their Tours to a local tower's frequencies. I'm not a very technically reclined person, so maybe someone in the forums who knows a little about this might be able to share.

well im on my second tour that has the same issues with it holdin signal in areas where it should most definately have great signal, they are suggesting i try a whole diff blackberry like the curve or storm. They say diff phones pull diff signal strengths of towers or some **bleep**. But its only happening in areas where alltel hasnt switched over to verizon yet. Not wantin to get a diff phone i came to verizon for the the tour not any of the other old berrys.

Had the same issues. Went to the Verizon store and they told me my PRL needed updating. I told them that I had done the *228 thing already. I was told that I couldn't do the update needed that way and he would push a Hyper PRL to my Tour. Don't know what that was and figured he was full of it, but to my supprise I haven't had a problem since. I've been on my Tour in my office all day today with no problems and 2 days ago I couldn't even hold a call for 2-3 seconds before it dropped.
