HI, I am interested in byuing a Blackberry curve, and so is my husband.  I am wondering, if we both have a blackberry do we BOTh have to have a blackberry plan, so this might cost us twice as much? OR can we have one blackberry plan between the two of us? I am curious, and also, how does everyone like their phones?  If anyone could help me out that would be great, to help me understand if this would be a good plan for us or not! thanks!!

TK. :smileywink:

Both of your devices must have the 29.99 bb feature. Its per blackberry not per account.

Just FYI, RIM requires Verizon to charge this and I'm sure they get a little share of it but don't think VZW is nickle and diming you.  It's for all those services like email streaming, IM service, web browsing and such.

Hi! I just wanted to chime in to say that my husband and I are both new to Blackberries as well.  I got the pink Curve last week and he got the silver Curve last night.  I'll admit that I didn't have an instant love affair with this phone because it was just so foreign to me...but over the course of 3 days or so, I DID have that feeling...which is why I insisted that my husband get one as well!  LOL!!!

Good luck with whatever you choose but I think if you do go w/a BB, you'll love it as well!

Just add $60 and some change (figure a bit more tax) and you'll know what to look forward to monthly from Big Red.

2 BBs x$30 per BB data plan=$60 on top of your normal bill.

Remove any text/data plans you currently have as the BB data plan is all inclusive.

A correction to one of the posts above - the blackberry plan does NOT include texting.  You still need your text plan if you plan to continue texting.

You are wrong, TXT/MMS to any cellphone # still will get charged as regular TXT/MMS if you don't have a plan for it.  BBM, Windows Live Messenger, AIM, etc that comes pre-installed on the phone, those are the ones that don't count.

WHY OH WHY must you buy a data plan with the Blackberry phones? My son already has an Ipod touch which provides FREE internet, email access so why can't he buy the Blackberry without a data plan?  Very frustrating!

You're right.  You do have free internet w/the iPod iTouch.  However, you have to be in a wi-fi zone for the "FREE" internet to work. :smileywink:  I have both and while I do love my iTouch for my music needs, not having a constant internet connection is a huge downside.

iPods, iTouch, whatever bum internet off hotspots or you're own home network<---which is not free.  BB's get internet off the VZW network and RIM servers which is why RIM require VZW to charge it's customers the extra dough.  I'm gonna go out on a lim here and say that while those "i" devices can check email on websites they do not stream email directly to the device like BBs do.

I need to clarify my above post and say that text and mms are separate charges and are NOT included in the data plan.  Data plan is just internet, msnger, email only.  Sorry for the confustion the inaccurate info was given to me by none other than, you guessed it a VZW employee.  It's a good thing there are plenty of people here to point out how WRONG I am.....sheesh.  My deepest and sincerest apologies. :smileytongue:

Good point Justin. Apple devices do not receive email instantly as Blackberrys do. This is a fatal flaw in their design and a very large reason why Apple products are not heavily adopted in the corporate workspace. When you're needing an email to confirm a sale, or get confirmation of a transaction you need the email now. With Blackberry the email is pushed to you within 30 seconds of it hitting the server. RIM is unrivaled in this aspect. There simply is no better secure email platform than a  well configured BES. It's a thing of beauty really.

I am a little unclear.  We currently have a family share plan.  If we upgrade to Blackberries do I just add the $30. Blackberry charge (per BB), or do I have to switch to an email and voice plan plus add the $30. Blackberry charge?

Thanks for any help you can give me.

You may keep your current plan.  Add $30 to each line you activate with a BB, thats it.  This $30 includes streaming email to your BB, all the msnger svcs installed on the phone and internet from your phone.  Txt and MMS are separate.  I think my confusion was over the fact that my calling plan gives me unlimited txt and mms so I never look at or monitor data charges.

You don't have to change anything about your existing voice plan. The $30 data plan can be tacked on as an individual feature, everything else about your plan can remain the same.

If he buys an iPhone he must purchase a $30.00 data plan also.
