I have a storm and was wondering is there a free way to tether or do you have to pay for it all ways. Thanks for the help. Dave

Hi, Dave,
Nothing is free in life, and the same applies to tethering from a Verizon Wireless phone. I think it is about $30 dollars for tethering.

Hi StreetDocRN. It's free on Sprint!
Dave if you want free services, then Sprint is the way to go. If you want the most coverage but enjoy paying almost double for it then stick with Verizon...

Correction: tethering is NOT free with Sprint. If you look at their $99.99 "Simply Everything" plan and click on the link that says "Learn More about what's included in this plan" and you read through the details you'll see it says, "Phone as a modem or tethering: NOT included".
Granted, it's still cheaper than VZW. No argument there. Just get your facts straight, son.

There are 3rd party applications out there that let you tether without paying VZW directly. [edit]
However, these types of applications do violate Verizon Wireless' Terms of Service agreement so use these types of apps at your own risk.
Be Careful. While our members are generally helpful and eager to provide useful information, Wireless customers need to be cautious on what you decide to download as there is always potential risk that your device may be damaged or void your warranty.
Thank you.

A tethering package is $30/a month. Requires Unlimited Email for BlackBerry or Smartphone Standalone Data Plan ($49.99 or Email & Web for BlackBerry or Smartphone feature ($29.99). The feature includes 5 GB allowance.

Be aware that if you tether without the tethering add-on, you can be held responsible for data use and get a huge bill. Even though your device has unlimited data, that doesn't cover data used while tethering.
Not sure how it works with third-party apps like TetherBerry though.
