Is the blackberry storm supposed to suck this bad?

I bought a BB Storm last week, and its been nothing but a headache. The screen is constantly freezing/unresponsive, especially around the edges. If I do happen to get it past that, it usually locks up, drops calls, or just doesn't function correctly.

Is this normal, or should I just send it back and cancel the service since it's only been a week and I'm ready to gouge my eyes out.

It does sound like your device is defective. If you just got it a week ago then you are still within the 30 day WFG period and you can just have a brand new device sent out not a refurbished device. Try that and then if you continue to have issues with the device then you have the option to cancel service.

Obviously they aren't supposed to suck that bad. But I've owned cell phones since the early '90's and have had many different makes and models over the years. Hands down the Blackberry Storm is the WORST cell phone I've ever owned. It is nothing but problem after problem. This is the second one...they warranteed the first one. Now they said they will warranty this one...I did a battery pull and it won't boot back up. Oh, by the way, you lose all your data when you reboot from the website.

No thank you. I'm going back to my Samsung Alias and if another decent provider ever offers an i-phone I'll go that route. I won't deal with the crooks at AT&T.  Blackberry's are just a bunch of expensive paperweights.

iPhone comes to VZW first quarter next year (i think) for all you Apple whiners.......sheesh.  BB's are not a bunch of paperweights, the Storm has definitely given RIM a bad name in their overaggresive launch of a phone quite flawed and clearly untested to some sort of liveable standard.  Some work, some don't.  Some are mfgr flaws and I bet a whole lot more is just user error.  These mini-computers that make phone calls are sensative and require some easy minor maintenance to keep em running smoothly.
The Storm is thee BEST cell phone (yes i said best) I have ever owned.  No other device I've used has surfed the internet for me while porting my 4 different email accounts right to my phone while I'm chatting with friends on any of the 5 different messenger services installed talking about the youtube video I just watched on my phone..........C'mon people, like Louis CK said, everything is amazing and nobody is happy.

I see a lot complaining about batteries being sucked down. I am having this now on my Nokia 6236i which I have been using for 3 weeks now. The former 6236i started doing it also,so at Verizons recomendation I did a warranty exchange but was charged $50 for it. All this started when Alltell was connected to the Verizon network. I am told I am within 1 mile of their tower. Phone every few minutes makes a funny sound and it is alerting me it is looking for the network which I am told is like making a call so my new battery will not last a day. Now they tell me it is my plan I have a digital choice 1000 unlimited minutes Texas only for $49 a month. They want me to swith to a 450 min plan for $39 a month that is nationwide. They say this is why I am having a problem? **bleep**??? Care to comment on this statement by Verizon? So I can jump ship and go to a different carrier and no surrender / early term fee because they cannot fix me.

Are you lost??  This is a Blackberry forum and the thread in which you are posting has nothing to do with this.........

But I will attempt to help.  Hunting for the network will drain your battery considerably faster than when it just stays connected all day.  It's one of the reasons it's a good idea to turn off the radio when you board an airplane or travel to areas with no signal.  I'm not sure how switching your plan will have any affect on the service you receive in your area and am willing to bet it won't make any difference at all.  Sounds like you got an ignorant customer service rep to me.

No, I am not lost, I saw about the storm and batteries being sucked down which is what started happening to me around the end of July when Alltell was connected to verizon. I am asking because I think I am getting ripped switching from1000 anytime Texas only to a Nationwide 450 plan which is what Verizon is telling me why my phone is acting up and I just cannot see how they can single me out and say that is why. I have a digital plan I have an E911 phone, i have access to all thier Verizon web stuff thru the phone. So I was asking if this is hogwash or true?

I'm calling hogwash, but that's purely speculation.  My reasoning behind it is unless VZW somehow switches you around on the network for different calling plans there is no possible way this can be true.  I mean I use the same network you do for my Family Share Plan....you (not YOU) mean to tell me that if I went to a international calling plan or something, I would suddenly be on some different part of the network??  I think not, sounds like a bunch of bologna to me.......Everybody uses everybodies towers for service so if you got one by your house that you're picking up service on now and they switch you to another plan I don't think that you'll somehow miraculously pick up another tower that won't give you problems........just my deductions Mr. Watson.

Your upgrade is good for along time. Wait till Oct (storm 2) and Nov (Curve 2).  Apple is in talks with VZ - Yes ,something first quarter -yes, Iphone -Not that soon. Watch for the LTE transition apple wants it to be an easy transition. If AT&T and VZ are using simliar radios with LTE, it will be pretty easy for them:smileywink:.

I cannot reveal my source, but rest assured it will be coming to Big Red here shortly just like the Storm2 is going to be available through AT&T.

Yep, this thing is going back to Verizon and I'll either wait for the BB Storm 2 to come out or for the iPhone and just use a **bleep**ty prepaid phone for the time being, it'll probably be cheaper any way (how will I live with no internets though!)

And yes, BB Storm 2 will be available on a wide range of networks according to reports I've read also.

And everything else says Apple has a exclusiveness contract with AT&T till 2011 though I can't confirm nor deny that as it seems it under right wraps for the contract. So its still possible iPhone = Verizon shortly as well though.

Also, AT&T = crooks = true statement, But verizon prices are strikingly similar :smileyvery-happy:

That may change as the FCC is deciding to step in and change exclusivity deals that the carriers have to make markets more competitive.  Who knows how long that will take.  LOL Could take them until 2011 to decide :smileywink:

I have an extra $100 plus my 2 year trade up od $100 which makes my cost for the Storm free thru August. If I wait until October then I will have probably $150 out of pocket. If I wait until the end of August and have 30 days and have problems, then I can bring the phone back and get another one if it causes problems, then I will be into October and hopefully can exchange it for the Storm 2.

Don't know if you can exchange Storm for Storm 2 if you get problems. Maybe you should wait until the Storm 2 comes out, even if only have $150 discount.:smileysurprised:

Even if you exchange them you will still have to pay at least 100 dollars for the storm 2. Rumor is it will be similiar in price to Tour. Trust me the difference between the two is easily worth $100 and you will be much happier with your purchase.

Just wait it out man.  Storm and Tour are hit or miss right now.  No telling if Storm 2 will also be hit or miss.  Best bet is to have patience.  Dont jump right in just ride out the wave:smileyhappy:
