My Blackberry Curve 8530 keeps crashing, restarting and draining the battery
UnderTheHoodie

For the last couple weeks, anytime I am making a call or using BlackBerry Messenger or even sometimes while using the web or regular SMS text, the device shutdown. I get the hourglass and then it tries to restart but it cannot because the battery power has automatically drained (this happens while it has just been fully charged also) and the only solution to get it to restart is to plug it in.

Any ideas?

I've tried deleting most of the applications, games, etc. and all videos but it is still happening. I know how to close programs so it is not the case of a lot of things running in the background.

Consider yourself lucky. This is a situation referred to as a "nuked Blackberry". Google search it. Most often, it will go into this reboot, white screen loop and never recover. The hardware is ok, there's just something catastrophically gone wrong/corrupt in the software. Mine started after I tried to update an app through Blackberry App World.

While it is still running, do a backup of it. Don't worry about apps, just get your contacts and personal info (Password Keeper)

If you can do that, you'll have to completely wipe it and reload the OS on it. Go to the Blackberry site for that.

Good luck.

UndertheHoodie, this is definitely a strange issue you are having with the device. First, make sure you have the latest version of Blackberry Messenger installed by going to Blackberry App World, press the Menu button then My World. Look for Blackberry Messenger to see if any updates available. Since the application is preloaded to the device, there is not a way to completely uninstall the application. If you haven't already, try a soft reset by removing the battery with the phone still on. The last step if the issue is still occurring is to complete a master reset/security wipe. This will erase all data from the device and reset to the default settings. I would recommend only backing up contacts & calendar and not a full backup as they may backup whatever corrupt file is causing this issue.

I just replied to someone w/a 9630 who is having the same issue.  I have a 9650.  Does it keep rebooting, several times a day? That's what mine is doing, but it stops sometimes.  It's good for a few hours or a whole day, then boom, the reboot loop starts again.  My phone will boot back up, look fine for 5 minutes, then reboot again. I got a new device under the warranty exchange and it's still doing it.
