Frequent freezes

Cannot get the keyboard to open in Landscape mode on home screen to clear memory logs.

Completely lost Wallet (by RIM) even tried to download it again and it will not show in my download folder or on the home screen although it states it is already on my phone. It does not show in the applications. = Please check your home screen for the application icon and/or the BlackBerry Application Center and follow the application installation wizard to re-install the applications.

Has a tethering plan. No longer able to connect using either MRB1000 or PHS300 CradlePoint routers.

Themes: when I turn my phone to landscape the background image doesn't stretch all the way and the icons blur or freeze on screen when I scroll up and down.

Storm will start up with the screen at a full 100% brightness, and then when the backlight times out and shuts off, I click the screen to turn it back on, and it comes on extremely dim. It seems to go back to being bright at random times.

Possible solutions = automatically dim backlight" settings under Options>Screen/Keyboard = attempted was already set to “off” = not fixed

I too cannot seem to get the automatic dimming feature to turn off. I've tried every combination of changing the brightness level, turning auto dim on/off, hard reboot by removing the battery, and the darn thing is still auto-dimming! Anyone else having the same issue? Anyone else have a resolution?

Problem:

BBM 5.0.0.33 has some touchscreen issues with the buttons for adding a contact or viewing contact details when a contact not in chat with in your list is highlighted. The bottom row of virtual buttons will only scroll down your contact list until it gets to the bottom and only then can you hit add or view contact details. For example, if I want to view the contact detail of my first contact in the list and i'm not currently chatting with them, I hit the contact details button on the touchscreen and all it does is scroll down. Same with adding a contact. They aren't available until u reach the bottom of the list. Now when you are in chat with somebody, the buttons will work.

Suggested improvement:

This is a pretty big oversight as far as I'm concerned, I really miss being able to toggle from vibrate to last selected ringer volume level using the mute button as available in the .75 firmware. They got rid of it in .148 and it still have not reappeared.

My music folder doesn't’t show up in the Media folder. I have to go through the Vcast music icon to get to my music... Is there a way around this? I don't have a music icon anywhere in any of my sub folders. bigpapa ORNURSEHUMC

I go to app world and select an app that I want, for instance the app store, it pops up with the screen to hit download so I hit it.. After I do that, it takes me into the internet browser telling me to hit the download button on there, but when I do it wont do anything... I can not get it to advance to the next page when trying to click a link on the internet browser. = suggested answer on forum: Try this from main screen go to Setup>Email Settings>press Blackberry button>list pops up>Service Books>Send Service Books

The new version of Facebook is very finicky. It will work for a while and then alternate between "data service not available", "cannot contact Facebook", or "login session expired" error messages. The login session expired happens quite frequently even immediately after I enter my information and click login. I have full towers and data service when I get these messages.snarky

The Google contact sync works better than the Google version did for me but still has a minor annoyance. The address from a Google contact syncs into the address line 1 field in my BlackBerry address book. So the entire address is all smooshed into one line. snarky

I've narrowed the backlight dimming issue down a bit more. It only seems to dim when I flip the phone into landscape mode. Seems to be OK and does not auto-dim when I hold the phone up/down.

For the question;

None of my multimedia or camera work after the update. Pressing the Music, Media, or Camera buttons completely lock up the device and I have to pull the battery.

Here is a temporary work around and the planned resolution:

Short Term Work Around: remove and replace the battery and power the device back up to free up allocated memory in order to launch the camera.

Planned Resolution: This issue is due to certain applications not releasing allocated memory when they are closed. A fix for this issue is still under investigation and could be made on either the device software or the application itself. More information on the fix will be provided when available.

Audible.com Application starts playing a book and then audio stops. The counter for seconds played continued going up.

I have to press pause and then play twice and then the book play properly.

If I press the stop button, then press play, the books audio stops and I have to go through the play/pause routine again.

Blackberry App World and Blackberry messenger appear to be linked in some weird way.

I tried to uninstall and remove blackberry messenger, but once done, Blackberry App World disappeared.

Once I reinstalled blackberry App World, Blackberry messenger showed up as archived again.

Once App World is installed and then I install Messenger, Messenger disappears.

Once Blackberry Appworld said BB messenger was installed and I rebooted, It didn't show up as a listed application.

I then forced a re-download and install from http://www.blackberry.com/blackberrymessenger and now BB messenger shows up and works!!!!

after trying to update everytime it only gets to 3 of 5. and looses connection everytime. I cant even use my phone. it wont even turn on.all it does is light up red status light for 5 6 seconds then stop and keeps doing it

I dont know if this is the same topic, but I just got the STORM2 with this OS Version, and after a battery pull I lost the world key to switch languages as well as the languages, only kept USA and UK. I have a Mac, is there any way I can download this to my device directly and not with a DM?

Initial SYNC with MS Outlook following update to this version DELETES Outlook items. (I commented on different thread about earlier issue involving BB deleting past items. This is a different, but perhaps related, issue.)

Speculate that when BB updates and copies Calendar events back onto BB, it resets the Date Changed marker in each item. Then, when you subsequently sync to Outlook, SYNC compares the older Date Changed marker in the Outlook items and assumes you want to Delete the Outlook item.

I fiddled with Sync options on the BB Desktop, and with Filters, but could not find a work-around. All I could do was print the list of items to be deleted and type them all into Outlook again.

Looks to me like the "update" is one step forward and two steps back....bummer.

Installed V5.0 OS on my 9530. Everything seemed fine until I tried to sync with Outlook. Not only did it not sync, everything on Outlook is gone. Outlook will sync to device but not vice versa. I have checked all the settings on Desktop Manager, as well as email associations on decice. Now I have noticed that my clock is off as well. I tell it to use network time, it does, and shortly after goes an hour ahead for no reason. That is do-able, even though it is supposed to be my alarm clock. MY OUTLOOK WILL NOT SYNC!!!!

I am so disgusted right now that I could just be ill. I have tried to fix it for hours wtih NOTHING, and of course, VZ will not support it. This is the last straw. If anyone could plese help me with a suggestion to get my Outlook to sync until I can switch to a phone that actually works, I would really appreciate it.

Since updating my storm 9530 to OS 5.0 none of my e-mail message alerts work. SMS/BBM/GTalk alerts work fine, however E-mail doesn't. I've changed profiles, sounds on e-mails to no avail. Not sure if it's problem with Verizon theme? Is anyone else having this problem?

Just a quick, possibly redundant question about "freezing", but to be honest, I haven't come across a logical explanation.

Having issues replying to e-mails and adding calendar entries so far. My Storm locked up at least 8 times yesterday and already a couple of times today. My free memory sits at around 22.5, but I read that the new software takes up about 10mg of space. Although this has not effected the speed of the device.

For the record, I never had this issue with the older version of the software, but know OMG.

Who's issue is this...RIM or Verizon? How do they fix something like this? So at some point soon we'll see an update?

Inquiring minds want to know and thanks for all your help

Ah ha, so this new OS 5.0 does use more memory. I have been trying to get back to my 35MB of memory I had before update. I even deleted some apps and still couldn't get back there.

With the old software, I was always running at about 32mg....and I don't run a lot of apps...

A couple of sites have given me the message that my browser is not compatible as it does not support Wap 2.0. I do not know what that is, but I do know that I was able to visit these sites prior to the "upgrade," which is feeling more like a downgrade. Whatgives?

Push Options Icon, then push Advanced options, then scroll down to Browser Push , push it and be sure these are all checked under enable and then Auto or Allow all are set. Then at the very bottom of list be sure you check Allow WAP Push Applications.Then back you way out using reverse button. Then try again and it should work. Report back please.

Kudos would be appreciated if this fixes this problem.

I received the 5.0 O.S update and although the gui is way cooler than 4.7, my applications no longer work the way they should.

Pandora no longer plays via bluetooth connectivity.
The send button is greyed out when composing new messages.
The media player spontaneously starts on it's own.

I have the same issue with not being able to access windows live websites (maintly hotmail). I've tried all of the above listed fixes to no avail. Can anyone offer advice.

After 5.0 upgrade headphones don't work.

I had to downgrade back to 4.7 to get the headphones to work again.

Gonna wait for the next OS update before I try again.

When I get a sms message, I am able to get into my SMS/MMS folder, but when I click on the message to open, it will not open it. No error messages, just unresponsive. I can open up other SMS messages in the folder, but not the top one.

It doesn't happen all the time, and when I pull the battery, it seems to work fine for a day or two, and then it starts again, every time I get a SMS message.

Anyone have a fix for this?

Keyboard is in the way EVERYTIME I try to read a text...won't swipe down, and have to go through several button clicks to "Hide Keyboard" everytime I want to read a text.

Thanks for you assistance. Unfortunately, I had already tried this, and I get the same result. I notice that others are having this issue, along with a host of others. I don't understand: is this an issue with RIM issuing a poorly tested product, or is it a Verizon problem? This is worse than Windows updates. It should not be for end users to solve problems created by corporate ill-considered rollouts. Who is responsible for this and what are the plans to make it right?

I have a Storm and recently upgraded to the 5.0 operating system. Prior to this, when I connected my BlackBerry to my computer, it would see it whether Mass Storage Mode was enabled or not. This was critical for my usage as I subscribe to the Rhapsody music service. One of the features of the service allows me to transfer whatever music I want to my smartphone without having to buy each track (it's called Rhapsody To Go). The service would not work if mass storage mode was enabled. However my computer, and the Rhapsody software would still see the Storm when Mass Storage Mode was not enabled.

Since the upgrade, neither the computer nor the Rhapsody software can see the phone when Mass Storage Mode is not enabled. I've contacted Rhapsody and they have no solution.

Since upgrading to the Ver. 5.0.0.328 software I have two major issues. One is that the voice dialing from my bluetooth device is now not nearly as accurate or user friendly as it was with the older version of software. The second is more irritating. While in the midst of a phone call the Storm reboots itself for no apparent reason. Not only do I lose the call, but it is then several minutes before I can call back while I wait for the reboot to finish. This is particularly annoying when I am talking to a customer or prospective customer. Anyone know of solutions?

Here is a fix for the Lack of BT on Pandora from Tom at Pandora:

By default, Bluetooth is disabled in the Pandora app. Here is how to
enable Bluetooth support:

* From the "Station List" screen press the "BlackBerry" key on you phone.
* Select "Options" from the menu that comes up.
* Set Bluetooth to "Enabled".

Once enabled, Pandora will attempt to use any connected Bluetooth
device, preferably an A2DP device.

If you add or remove a Bluetooth headset while music is playing in
Pandora, you may need to pause/play the song for the correct audio
routing to kick in (or wait for the next song to start).

I was able to solve the Pandora issue with the options change.

Another problem I have is the media player. I drive a ford fusion with media sync and whenever I my bluetooth connects or disconnects when getting in and out of the car, the media player starts to play on it's own.

Ever since I upgraded the software the phone doesn't synch properly with my pioneer AVIC Z2 when I get in the vehicle. Keeps showing it is in a call when the blue tooth connects. have tried resynching from scratch. no luck

My guess is you have it set to auto start playing when connected. Try the BB Menu when open, as the previous one and set it to not auto play.

Ok so I did the update thing with my Storm to 5.0.0.328 after the reboot my phone whent funky! Any how my issue's were the

auto dimming did not cut off in landscape mode it was almost unreadable it was so dim, next my games kept giving me app

error's and had to reset the phone to get it to work. At first I thought it was my phone that whent south but after 3 replacement's

and every replacement having the same issue I decided to bite my tongue and just take one for the team especially after Verizon was telling me it was just me trying to scam a new phone out of them hay a little fact here I payed $220 for my STORM

new out the box when it came out and they gave me used replacement's who's scamming who here???? Any how I picked up

2 Iphone's on a family plan and am going to try for the 30day's so far I'm blown away and they seem to aknowledge there customer's need's not discourage them.

I have had to roll back to 4.7! Due to the following issues.

Issue 1

The phone stops recognising the charger - ANY CHARGER - and requires the battery pull to be able to charge the phone!

Issue 2

When the blackberry storm is connected to my laptop it locks out visual voice mail from working along with other apps.

Issue 3

When I remove the phone or replace the phone into my blackberry branded holster the phone cheerfully dials someone at random.

Issue 4

It places the phone on Mute and voice dialing etc through blue tooth stops working at random.

Issue 5

It mutes the blue tooth at random

Issue 6

the back button and blackberry buttons become hyper sensitive making browsing almost impossible.

This is just a few of the problems. When the charging problem occured I was informed by Customer service that it had to be something I was doing yet I have heard of other people with the same problem.

I really have had enough. I never had a single problem with my storm and it's now a year old and never needed replacing and now I worry about problem with it if I end up re-upgrading.

I need my phone to work first time every time not when the blackberry decides it's time to do it.

I need to access my data in the same manner and receive voice mails if they come in when they come in. I can't remove visual voice mail from my contract - it's not even on the list of features that can be removed - and it pee's me off that something that I have to pay for doesn't even work properly any more!

I have read on here that some of the older storms have problems and they will do a free exchange for you if you call CS 800-922-0204 from another phone and ask for BB tech support.

Ok I upgraded my cell phone to the 5.0 software but didnt like it. I'm now at 4.7 again. Can anyone tell me what the current/legit (non leaked) version number is out right now for the 9530?

I see we're talking about 328; is that the latest?

Well my friend just hopped in the shower so I have to wait til he comes back but I heard 2 people: 1 person who has a storm 2 with the OS cannot enter a birthdate prior to 1959; then my friend who has a storm 1 (9530) that upgraded when it was announced also said he cannot enter a birthdate prior to 1959.

Which means that if I was born in 1924, he cannot enter that date in. So when he gets back I'll tell you the 5.0 software version he has.

Til then. I think this is a major bug that good ol RIM shouldve looked at before the placed it on the market.

Otherwise as far as me, I see my problem is announced "frequent freezes"; plus I just dont likt he new SMS layout :smileysad:

Okay where are we entering birthdate on the phone, in the contact list?

1. auto text in text messages will not turn off.

2. new text messages appear above the date bar, and you must bounce them down into view.

3. clock alarm is impossible to set.

4. the update destroys all folder settings and options.

Best advice from Verizon after 30 min phone call:

ROLL BACK to old OS.

Bet the guy that designed this was fired from the MS Vista project.

Nice. I'll be getting rid of this phone at the first available time, and no more Black berry.

Too many unresolved issues and no documentation on a major upgrade... nice job.

I am very surprised don't understand how people just can't get this version up in running! Do they have an older model or what? Or is it that some came out good...or do they have a set up in which if you pay your bills on time? you get the best phone! Ha ha ha ha that's funny

when you turn screen back on do it in potrait mode? then turn it to landscape it will dim Okay so then turn back to potrait and wala! there you go got it fix?

I have the same problem, which prompted me to call support today. They were not too pleasant, and not helpful either.

I will give this one a shot for you. The dimming issue has not been resolved with the 5.0 software. My S1 did it while on the 4.7 version as well.

Some are reporting it is a bug in the software and VZW/RIM are aware and hopefully if it is a glitch they will correct it with the next release or a patch.

Others are saying the dimming is supposed to be there and is working properly with the light sensor doing its job.

I myself am leaning towards a software glitch or bug and will eventually be fixed.

Not a fix for you but just a little information.

woooo okay I remember now I had this dim issue after security wipe, and I was like what's up with this constant dim It was not like that, so what I had done was another security wipe and now I only get dim. On landscape but after turning it back to potrait mode in 3 seconds goes back to normal and won't dim again, until backlight turns off? So all I did was security wipe..if after doing S.W. Still won't work wipe again till you get it right. That's what i did I remember I did it 3 times first was dim constant though, and second. Was not having icons like browser etc... But all I had to do was battery pull for 5 minutes and icons appeared! So hey give it a try..it worked me!

Okay I found another unsolved problem and I believe it is in S1 and S2 in the phone info. screen when you go to edit or to initially set up info.,you cannot set a birth date back beyond 1959, the date scroll flat runs out at 1959. I and lots of my friends were born before 1944. We also have senior moments, that means we have a memory loss at that moment in time, not forever, just right then. LOL

I was reading the blackberry forums today and found a solution to the calendar issue.

At the year input; hold down the 123 button and TYPE in the year. Hopefully that should work. I dont have the 5.0 OS but I tried it out on my 4.7 and noticed I can type in a year versus clicking the down button.

I have the same problem with 5.0.0.328 OS for BB storm 1.

Left mine at this version since the unit operates better. No newer version has been released that I see. Do you know of a fix for this as of June 1, 2010?

5.0.0.419 OS for BB storm 1 works fine for me. It is an official RIM release, but not a VZW release. Do an online search for it, or go to Crackberry.
