This is getting crazy long in the wait for MM update. Any news?
Roll-out begins:

Eric,
@EricW_VZW you didn't answer the question. The latest update listed in your link was over 2 months ago. If Verizon knows it's important to get the latest updates then relase Marshmallow for the Priv.
I'll repeat the question myself. When will Marshmallow be availble for the Blackberry Priv? At least tell why it's taking so long.
Same no answer as always. This is a security issue. The Priv is not as secure without MM. Why is Verizon always last?
I opened an FCC complaint and the response was the same thing. Same link and "we have the highest standards in testing updates because that is our pledge to our customers" Standards so high that vital security patches never make it past testing. I should have stayed on ATT.
Nougat, a.k.a. Android 7, should be available on August 22nd. I don't know if you can download/install it directly from Google or if you have to wait for the Verizon release.
Android 7.0 Nougat release date pegged at August 22nd
Well Nougat comes out today and still no update to MM for the Priv.!!!!!!!!!!!
T-Mobile is looking better day by day.
GIVE ME AN ANSWER ON WHEN THE UPDATE WILL BE
Hey @EricW_VZW where's Marshmallow? I also haven't received any security updates in weeks
@EricW_VZW can you please give us an answer?
Your phone works fine. Stop clambering for a software update. BB was late to the party as it is. 9.9 times out ten there is no high class security that will be need for new software anyways.
How long should we wait? Shouldn't we get updates in a timely manner? It's been almost two months since the last security updates.
No. And here's why.
This is blackberries first foray into the android world. They have always had their own software and own control. This is the first phone they have that's a hybrid. This was known to shoppers before it came out. It is unrealistic to think that things would be flawless. The average consumer does not need "security updates" and if so should have gone with a tried and proven device initially.
Where do you get your info from? Read every article about the Priv and it clearly says with MM it is 1 of the most secure phones out there. You need to stay off this forum, you have no idea what you are talking about.
What do you mean where do I get my info from? Everyone knows it's a hybrid device. Whats your point? Troll?
There must be soME nefarious reason Verizon does not want to upgrade to Marshmello. I suggest a class action suit by everyone who wants it. Marshmello has extended aPP SECURITY THAT IS PROBABLY PISSINGOF THE MORONS AT vERIZON. iT IS AVAIABLE FROM TbLACKBERRY SITE, BUT IS BLOCKED BY vERIZON. wHY/
mAYBE WE SHOUOLD GIVE BACK THE PHONES AND GOP TO at&t.
Per the FCC class actions are not allowed.
You do that. Have fun.
What difference does it make about who makes the phone? It should be up to date. Verizon can not get their people to get it working. I know for a fact because I talked to BB and Verizon, it was released in April to all carriers, only Verizon can not get it working.
The phone works as programmed. You want it updated but it works fine. Blackberry is fading out. Nothing to do but deal with it.
Do you work for Verizon? Because your answer is [removed]. What if you have a phone that they cant get up to date, i dont want to see you on here whining.I also ave an LG G3 thats running MM and is scheduled to get nougat and they can't get MM on a phone less then a year old. Let me know if you want me to post all of my discussions with both BB and Verizon. Also you are wrong on them getting out of the phone business, they may not e in it like other big makers but they are in it and it should be honored by verizon. My G3 was one of the first to get MM, but they have dropped the ball on the Priv. The Priv is supposed to get Nougat in 2nd quarter of 17, so why can't it get MM now?

My post was supposed to be directed to pherson, sorry for my mistake
Whats telling here is the Priv on AT&T and T-Mobile both got the update in May of this year. Tomorrow is October 1st...the update is on other Priv devices. All Verizon has to do is make sure it works with their redundant apps make any tweaks they feel are worthwhile (sometimes VZW has BB put in some extra goodness) and roll it out.....I want to buy this device, but I will pass if VZW has no plans to update it.
Let's not forget that the PRIV hasn't received a security update since June. That's irresponsible on VZW's part.
vzw_customer_supportverizonmoderator2 why don't you give us PRIV owners and update? Or don't you respond to mentions in your forums.
If anyone else replies to this thread mention vzw_customer_support and verizonmoderator2 on every post. Maybe we'll get some attention.
Well rgray i think we got screwed by Veizon. Just read this a.m. that BB is releasing major updates for the Priv to all carriers except Verizon. They must have really [Removed] off BB somehow. I wonder if we can get out $ back or a free phone swap.
Where did you see that? Can you post a link?
BlackBerry Priv Starts Receiving October 2016 Security Update : TECH : Tech Times
Every carrier is pushing them out except Verizon
What if we all started calling the VZW help desk and ask when the PRIV will receive MM or at least security updates? Another option is to start opening chat sessions with support. I've had some interesting conversations with support on the phone. One tech told me that I didn't need security updates on the Verizon network. The network would keep my phone safe. Dumbest thing I've ever heard.
Of course vzw_customer_support will never respond to this thread with updates. verizonmoderator2 doesn't seem to care either.
Considering Blackberry is no longer in the phone business you can expect it to be more widespread now.....
End of an era: BlackBerry will stop making its own phones - Sep. 28, 2016
They are still in business, they're just exiting the hardware business but still developing software and will seek a hardware partner for future phones (much like Google does with the Nexus and now Pixel lines). The Dtek 50 and 60 that they are selling are revamped Alcatel phones with Blackberry software etc.
It has been unfortunate (and rather disheartening) that Verizon's support for the BlackBerry Priv is lacking in transparency and timeliness. My family has recently updated our plan to the New Verizon plan giving up unlimited data on two accounts because we weren't really taking advantage of the usage. When April hits and all the phones are off contract, I will probably pay off the remaining balance on my Priv and move to a carrier that is going to provide end-to-end support for my device to the duration of the manufacturer.
Testing a device for stability on the network is important, but as important is to have that software tested and vetted in a timely fashion, released to market, and any errors reported easily. I also wasn't impressed that when I initially purchased the Priv, the associates in the store did not even know they carried the phone.
I didn't file an FTC complaint over the lack of Marshmallow, because I was unaware of that particular promise to update, but I did expect to receive the security updates, and that has been unacceptable.
Nicely said. The blackberry phones are security certified for government use. Part of that certification requires that vulnerabilities are rapidly patched.
An FTC complaint would have to take a position of unfair business practices. I did make that case to the FTC and my state's Attorney General. I documented how some vendors like Apple are given preferential treatment, while others like Blackberry are not given the same benefits. When a carrier shows preferential treatment to the extent that Verizon has the consumer suffers by allowing phones to be compromised. This exposes an individual to loss of personal information and possible monetary loss. In addition the information lost can be used for social engineering to perform attacks, such as phishing to the owner and their contacts. In addition the compromise could use the phone to create a bot to perform attacks on our critical infrastructures.
How is Verizon going to address this issue? This isn't something that business users can just choose to avoid, we are a government entity that has security auditors to answer to. The ONLY reason we have stuck with BB's is because they are deemed to be more security conscious. For Verizon to not only refrain from releasing this update, but to ignore and not provide reasonable answers to their customers is inexcusable.
Ghost Push possesses Android devices; only version 6.0 is safe
I don't understand. If you have someone to answer to, why not simply get another phone? Surely you can't blame Verizon if you lose your job.
It's obvious to many of us that you don't have the capacity to understand. We've given Verizon Wireless ample time to respond to this problem but they refuse. I no longer bother to ask anymore. For those of us that require secure phones for our jobs, Verizon has failed, big time. The most secure phone sold and "supported" by Verizon became orphaned less than 4 months after they provided it. For over 4 months We've been trying to get Verizon to acknowledge that they need to tell us why this is so. We just want them to declare whether they will or will not fix this. All we've gotten is the runaround.
My company is taking a stand; by the end of next month my entire company is leaving Verizon Wireless. We've purchased new Privs directly from Blackberry which should be arriving this week. So keep telling people to switch phones. That just proves that Verizon is not listening to their customers.
A piece of advice for Verizon which has been ignored so far. Your coverage and reliability advantage is shrinking. We've determined that we have better US and world-wide coverage with another carrier. Basically, the objects in your mirror are larger than you see. Continuing to mistreat your customers is not a sustainable strategy for your future.

Verizon Executive Services has finally provided information to the FCC in an official letter. The important information reported is:
"The security update for the Blackberry Priv is expected to be released to Verizon customers in early November".
This doesn't help me anymore since my company is already committed to end our relationship with Verizon. I just wanted to let others know that something is officially promised for next month. It's not clear whether it will bring the Priv up to the latest patches, have Marshmallow, or even that they were talking November this year. Yes, I've become very cynical after 4 months of working on this.
That's good to know! I will be watching out for those updates and continued support of the phone through the end of BlackBerry's support cycle, then reevaluate at that time.
GGendel,
Can you please provide the source for the quote you posted about the November release? I believe nothing I read from Verizon, I'm convinced that Verizon has abandoned all development on PRIV patches and updates, and I was planning to jump ship to AT&T this very weekend. I'd love to see the source of your prediction. Thanks.
I have been closely working with the FCC on this issue for several months and have a copy of an official response to a complaint from Verizon Executive Services. Unfortunately, the rules on this forum prohibit me from posting the entire letter as it contains personal material. Unless the forum moderators tell me I can post it, you'll just have to take my word.
ggendel,
I understand, and good for you for following Verizon's rules.
I am certain that the readers of the Verizon Priv User Room forum over at Crackberry would be very interested in your news, and AFAIK there's no similar restriction over there about posting your letter.
The most recent positing on that forum is a link to your posting here, so I hope you'll choose to share the letter with us over there.
Thanks for the encouraging news, either way!
