It depends on what application you're using for those IM services. If you use the Verizon Wireless branded app that you download called Mobile IM then yes, it will use your text messaging allowance. The VZW app doesn't support G-Talk. So you'll have to get a third party app to support G-Talk and these types of third party apps DO NOT use your text messaging allowance. IM+ is a good one that supports all of those services, but you do have to pay for it.

The IM programs that come with a blackberry use data (they're not VZW Branded), I believe, and should be covered by the required Blackberry Data Feature.  Or at least that seems to be how it works on the Storm.

Oh I forgot about those. You can download AIM/Yahoo/MSN for Blackberry and it will use data. But those are directly from RIM either thru the App Store or off RIMs website, right? But there is a crappy VZW one that only supports AIM/MSN/Yahoo...it's real slow and ugly looking. Or is it only for WinMo and regular handsets?

Darn. I've confused myself. Nap time.

As long as its not branded as VZW's mobile IM, yes.

mmmm that's interesting, if I download Live Messenger or AOL Messenger from the Blackberry App Store it won't count as txt message? anyone can confirm this? because if that's the case I will remove my select plan when I get the Tour.
