BYOD promo is a sham for existing customers

Once again VZW has succeeded in sticking it to an existing customer. I have been with VZW for several years, giving them many on-time and consistent monthly payments. Wow, what a guy! And for it, what do I get??? I get shafted on a "BYOD" promise because I'm such a great customer. As you may already know, BYOD only applies to NEW lines. Then how about you rename it accordingly VZW, maybe to something like the Bring Us More Money discount?

My case ... I had an iPhone 12 and wanted to refresh that with an iPhone 16. I purchased my new iPhone directly from Apple. Then I updated my service plan to a current one and "brought my own device" to my VZW plan. An initial chat with a support rep told me that I would qualify for the BYOD promo discount given that I had indeed brought my own device, literally. I never saw that materialize on my account. Reaching out to chat again I was told that the promo only applies to NEW/Additional lines on an account.

This is not a huge plus in the customer loyalty category.

Personally, I believe a lot of the promotions done by any company are more for marketing and will leave it at that.  ๐Ÿค

There are those who intentionally switch carriers every few years in order to take advantage of whatever "new customer" offers are out there, but in my own experience and from reading stories here in the forums, the grass is not always greener elsewhere.  If your service is otherwise good, that in itself is worth paying for as another company could very well not work all that well in the same location.

I agree. I've been in IT for over 20 years and know all too well the "grass is greener" sentiment. Sales is always the glorious top of an underlying glacier. I have found it to be a better strategy to just navigate the changes that a provider brings along until for whatever reason you reach your ultimate breaking point.

FWIW ... I chatted with a Verizon rep about this situation and they gave me a one-time $15 credit on my next bill. Ha!

Well, something is better than nothing.  That's too bad the first person you spoke with gave you the wrong information about the BYOD promo though.  Verizon has not been helped by outsourcing a good deal of their CS overseas.
