I have been connecting to the internet with usb modem the past 2 years.
and this year I got  verizon netbook computer which I haven't activated yet.
My concern is, once I activate the netbook, will I still be able to use the usb modem on my main computer. I just wanted the netbook for on the go.
Will I be able to use both computers on the same plan??

You have to ask Verizon for sure, but I'm pretty sure you will need a separate plan for each modem. A viable alternative would be to get a MiFi, which will allow up to 5 devices to share a single connection via WiFi.

You cannot use two devices on one plan. You can call Verizon and switch back and forth.

Why not use the USB modem as you do now when you are at home, and then plug it into the netbook when you are traveling?  Just don't activate the internal modem in the netbook.

Bingo. Obvious answer.

Except then there was no point in buying a netbook with built in cellular from Verizon.

I think the best way is to buy a wifi router, so when he is traveling, he can use the internet, at home, he can also use both computers on the same plan.

Actually, the problem is the stinking Business Model. Great ARPU and ROI, but terrible for consumer. What is needed here is a model based on subscription by CUSTOMER, not subscription by DEVICE. You buy a bucket of minutes, texts, data, whatever, and it is usable by any device you own that is compatible with the tech the phone company uses. That model is in fact, common in many countries in Europe (ah, that Regulated, Socialist Europe again) where they will give you 2 or more sim cards and you can use as many devices as you own on the network (though probably not simultaneously). Another reason that model works better over there is that they use ONE universal stndard on ONE set of frequencies. So switching or using multiple devices over sevderal carriers is a breeze.

But hey, this is AMERICA. We have to be DIFFERENT. So, we have usurous business models, redundant incompatible replication of infrastructure, deregulation, "free" markets and we should be happy, especially now that we have voted in a wolf-pack of right-wing proponents of these practices. But Lord knows I'm sure as heck not. Unfortunatetely, as politically sensitive as this contry is nowadays, it is impossible to divorce an economic issue from the politics which gives rise to it.

It depends.. If you used an upgrade to get the netbook at the upgrade price, then you need to activate it, then switch back to the original USB device, then use the USB device in your home computer and the netbook seperately.  If you did an upgrade and don't activate the netbook, you WILL be charged the diff between the upgrade pricing and the retail pricing of the netbook.

If you did a new line of service for the netbook, then you have 2 seperate plans for service, in which both the netbook will have service on its own and the usb device will have service as well.  This is more expensive, but is probably the only other way they could have set it up.  As others have suggested, a MiFi would work nicely, but it sounds like you wanted the netbook, so you probably couldn't do both unless you got a netbook for a higher price or from another source.

He already has the netbook. That's why he's asking the question.
