727 Device Turns Off

I have had broadband for about 5 months. Most of the time I get a good signal (3 bars) at my house but sometimes it goes down to zero totally losing the signal.  However, even if I have 2-3 bars, the device starts blinking (green light) and turns itself off.  Then my PC can't locate the device and closes the program. When I restart VZAccess Manager, it either works great with 2-3 bars or starts turning itself off again and again.  This can go on for a while, but then the signal returns to 2-3 bars and it works OK.

I have checked with tech reps at Verizonwireless  about this problem. They sent me a new modum to see if that was the problem,  I asked them to check the signal in the area.  I live about 1 1/2 miles from a Verizon antenna. And supposedly they are doing that.  One rep told me to reload the software.  I have had this problem on both my laptop and desktop computers. I even changed locations in the house and bought a small antenna attachment that is on my window.  Any idea what is going on?

I found one possible reason the device turns off sometimes.  My laptop has Windows Vista and a message says that DEP closes down the program.  It says to look for  DEP compatible software for VZAccess. Is there such a thing?

There is a setting for many peripherals "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power." Maybe Windows is powering it down for some reason?
