Conflicting info on activating MiFi 4510L - Auto-activate? Call? Web site?

I'm trying to activate my new 4510 that came with SIM card, but Users' Guide says to call a number to activate, another place says to use the Web site, and this topic http://support.verizonwireless.com/clc/devices/knowledge_base.html?id=40685 I found on the Verizon site says it's all automatic once I turn on the device. Which is it?

SIM cards normally come activated for you with a new device and data plan.  To test it out just plug it into your MiFi and boot it up.  The LED on the side will let you know if there is a SIM card problem or not by displaying various colors. 

If you get anything other then Green or Purple then your SIM will need to be activated.  Contact VZW's hotline and have them walk you through the process.
