If you don't need it then turn it off. If disabling GPS breaks something then turn it back on.
The GPS feature on Jetpacks works a little different than the GPS or location tracking on your smart phones. There are specific mapping and geo processing applications that can interface with the Jetpack. It shouldn't be doing anything unless you have one of these application actively talking to it and consuming GPS coordinates.
