No connection to irc server on fdfnet

I have been having this problem on and off for awhile.

I connect to the internet with a Verizon MiFi 2200 device (that I pay a lot of money for every month).

I go to irc (Internet Relay Chat) to talk to freinds and play trivia. The servers I need to connect to are bethere.fdfnet.net or ibusy.fdfnet.net. I have not been able to connect to bethere.fdfnet.net for the better part of a year and sometimes, like NOW, I can not connect to ibusy.fdfnet.net. I know the problem is not that these servers are down because other people I know are able to connect to them. The reason I beleive this is verizons problem is that if I go to my neighbors house and connect to the internet with their comcast cable connection it works fine to either server.

Please fix this...

Are you using DSL or FiOS and I'll move your question to a more appropriate board.

I am using a Verizon MiFi 2200 so I guess I am using your wireless network.

Please let me know were you move it to via an email {edited for privacy} seeing as I do not see an easy way to get to my posts (like every other forum I belong to).

Also is there a way to get an e-mail when ever this post is updated (again a feature on all other forums)?

Thank you in advance.

It has happened again.... I can not connect to bethere.fdfnet.net or ibusy.fdfnet.net. It finds them but then times out when it tries to connect.

the mifi is a cellular device. This would be better off on the Verizo Wireless boards. Its not related to FIOS

VZW seems to have some thing with blocking IRC at times. try various addresses for your network, as well as various ports if available (like 6666, 6668, 7000, etc). If your IRC client supports SSL connections, and the IRC network in question has SSL connection support on their side (IRCd level), go that route.

Hmm, I can access IRC channels on my Pixi Plus without any problems.

Different internet providers may not allow all newsgroups .. sometimes on purpose...sometimes an "oops".

I'm not sure how you'd actually get in touch with the Verizon folks who maintain the internet servers but that's who ought to be looking at it...

do they monitor this forum?

I am having the same problem trying to connect to mIRC.  I get the error message: timed out  (dns pool).  The mIRC forum says it is a server problem.  I can connect on other wireless systems.  Is there a way to fix this connection issue?  I am missing my chat buddies!

As in the old Rolling Stones song "I can't get no satisfaction". So I am going to leave this here for awhile and I will check if anyone from Verizon forwards this to the correct person(s) for resolution. To bad there is not a way to escalate this to a higher level.

A few months have now passed since the last post and I am experiencing the same issues with server timeouts on UnderNet.org. I used to chat on UnderNet with my old Moto Q without issue for YEARS. Unfortujnately that phone does not have WiFi, and so that phone is now useless for irc chat. I got on ONCE a few days ago with my broadband card, only to find server timeouts the next day.  I'm convinced that this is intentional port-blocking on VZW's part as I have no problem connection via WiFi on PC or current phone (Droid Incredible). But the DInc does time out on server connection attempts over 3G.

My impression is VZW is blocking .myvzw domain from accessing IRC servers over standard IRC ports 666x for reasons known only to them, and they are not taking responsibility for their actions. This also makes perfectly clear why they, along with AT&T, are lobbying so hard for deregulation and anti-net neutrality. FCC wants to make precicely this kind of selective site blocking illegal. IRC has had it's virus and spam issues, but it still is nonetheless a LAWFUL communications venue.

Needless to say, I'm frustrated with Verizon Wireless behavior concerning their restrictive blocking policies and ask either for the cesation of IRC server port blocking, or I may have to cancel new phone service with them and remain with my former carrier.
