I have the same problem. I only use my jet pack when I travel. Today I got a notice that I had used up 75% of my data. I had it turned on from 4pm until 10 pm and was not using it all the time.
How could this happen!

Hello comunity members! I can understand your concerns about your data usage. We offer several methods to track your usage including #DATA and the My Verizon Mobile App. The best method for you to utilize would be to monitor your usage at www.vzw.com. You can view each data session by time and data transmitted. Here are the instructions below:
- Sign in to My Verizon.
Locate the I Want To... section.
Under the BILL column click View Usage. The My Current Usage page displays.
If appropriate, Select A Line to view usage for a different line.
Select View Detail
Please let me know if you need additional asssitance. You all have a great day!

Thank you for explaining how to look at usage. Unfortunately I have done this repeatedly and it offers no significant detail as to WHAT is actually happening. I can only tell you it is at night, when NO device is on and there is no valid explanation for what is happening. This is supposed to be a secure connection, with a password, so why can we not leave this device on? Technicians have told us that it needs to be shut off at night. Can you explain why? I can't understand why, if we shut our devices off, we can't leave it on. Isn't that a benefit we should be paying for? After all, it is like having a secure internet service isn't it? If not, I guess we need to consider a different service.

Dont you think they already know how to monitor their usage since they have realized that Verizon is robbing them? Why dont you explain to them how that program that logs the data usage and makes it available to read by you and I, actually works, and who programmed it. Explain how data usage gets logged when the device is turned off. That is the what they want to know. They didnt ask you how to monitor their usage, or run account analysis, or upgrade to a bigger data package to avoid overage fees. Read and understand the issue being talked about next time before you respond with irrelevant information

I got an alert last week saying I was at 51% 10 days into my cycle. I looked at my data details on my jetpack. I've got some random usage times which would make sense but I also have data usage reported every 6 hours, (1:30 a.m., 7:30 a.m., 1:30 p.m., 7:30 p.m....). I supposedly used 1.35GB from 1:30 a.m. to 7:30 a.m. one morning while we were asleep. Just looking at how my usage reports every 6 hors makes me think something is wrong. Any ideas?

I have turned off my card and am not using it until I can get an answer. Of course Verizon is still collecting $50 per month. I have had my friends and family ask me about the card and I tell them to hold off buying until I get this cleared up. Verizon promised a call but none so far. M

I am having the same problems. We are hardly using this thing and I when the contract is up I am getting somthing different with a different company. When I have gone in to a Verizon store to find out why I am just given the run around with 'well you are probably playing games - NO - watching TV programs -never - and on and on. I did not have this problem until March of last year - and I used to play games on FB a lot. In fact, we used to be one for hours a day, now hardly at all and this month we have gone over FOUR times? This is just so wrong with all the complaints that Verizon is getting and they do nothing. I am so against class action law suits but man if some one gets one for this I am going for it. I feel like each month when we go over we are being stolen from. I have gone to the page where you can put in hour many hours a day or week or month you will be doing different things on iine. I have put down hours of playing games, doing email and it tells me we should be about half of what we are allowed. Well we can use 25% in one day according to Verizon and that is with being on for maybe an hour or two. There is something very, very wrong with this mifi and I am tired of over paying. Please Verizon listen to us consumers - we are not going to stay with you. And when my unlimited phone contract is up and my phone finally dies I am changing that plan over to another compnay that does not have limited anything.

Hello Travelers2,
I definitely don't want you or your family to leave the VZW Family! We absolutely want to find out more as to why there's an increase in your data.
I know you mentioned all was well for some time and then all of a sudden it shot up. Has anyone recommended changing the network key on your device, just in case?
You can do so by following these steps: http://support.verizonwireless.com/clc/devices/knowledge_base.html?id=40685 more specifically step 9.
When I'm not actively using my jetpack I ensure I don't leave any browsers open, I only allow updates to my computer and antivirus when I say it's ok, and I turn the device off at night.
You stated nothing has really changed, are the games you're playing different? Is it a new computer?
Keep me posted!
Thanks,
MelissaM_VZW

once again Verizon is showing how intelligent their employees are by allowing someone who is probably a sweet person, yet obviously unqualified to deal with the issue at hand. each time verizon responds with an answer of irrelevant information or redundant, it only drags the time out, it has you thinking they are seriously looking into the issue, and ultimately their hope is you grow tired of the nonsense and get on with your life. Meanwhile, I am sure they are jumping thru hoops trying to figure out how they are going to fix this with soooooo many customers, before they get slammed by the courts. You see people, Filing a report with the FCC is the best way to deal with them. They will not ever be able to tell you why after doing just fine on 3GB a month for some time, all at once you use 15 GB a month, having several times upped your data plan at their recommendation, And them Not telling you that you wont be able to get your old plan back. The FCC has an online page where you can file a report of fraudulent charges. They will handle Verizon. It may take them a while, as they will need a computer geek as good as the one Verizon has in order to show the data usage charges are being logged while there is no data device turned on and no wifi capable device turned on or having access to the mifi,
I encourage all of you to file your report with FCC. Corporate Giants getting away with crime. Im not an activist, just someone so very fed up. With Verizon. I have been arguing with them for 2 years now, a customer since before they were verizon. I have 3 lines coming out from under contract in January, they will be shut off. The remaining line will have the bare bones and then suspended untill it is out of contract. Why pay for a phone and not use it? because there is no way for them to throw in fraudulent charges of bogus usage if the line is in suspended status. No I am not cash flush, far from it, it will be hard for me to afford double service. But I will not be paying for them to pad their ceo bonuses. And I wont have to waste so much time every month trying to get them to understand that once again they have screwed my bill up.
Good luck to all you

I'm having the same issues. I shut my computer off my jetpack off everynight. It is totally unplugged from everything and I started going onver last month after over a year of never using the full 5. So there is a problem of some kind. I work over nights and my computer is shut down every morning when I get off and put in a bag and into by vehicle by 7:30 a.m. each morning. I'm not downloading anything my games and other things are already on my computer. So mr Brian68. You do not know everything.

Listen geniuses. If you leave your mi-fi on all night you are going to have data usage. You PC does updates and even if not, then there is ALWAYS some usage. I have cable internet and if I leave my computer on 24/7 and NEVER use it I will still end up using 5 GB a month. Your PC is always going to try to ping to the outside every once in a while. While each ping is small in of itself, it does this quite often. Also like I said I suspect you have something set to auto update on your PC at night.
Instead of immediately blaming Verizon and saying stuff like fraud. why not looking in the mirror and admit that maybe it's YOU causing the issue. But know you can never do wrong. even though I can tell most of you are not very computer literate. That's not an insult just factual. Yet somehow you can tell what's using your data. I wonder how many of you don't even have security on your mi-fi or have the password left as the default password and never changed it or have some easy to guess password?
By the way get REAL internet. 4G isn't meant to replace DSL or cable internet. And if you don't have access to that and you are using less than 5 GB a month anyway just use dial-up.

words from the wise? apparently you are not reading the messages, maybe too many words for you, not insulting just factual. With no device turned on including the mifi device, data is being logged. Also pinging will never create 5gb worth of usage, and I am sure most of these ppl have changed their default wps key, also by checking the network they can see that no other device is on their network. Perhaps you dont need the internet at all and since you dont have a problem with verizons data logging methods why are you reading these forums? Bored? no life?Or do you work for verizon? because your response is about as lame as verizons. Never assume these ppl are less intelligent than yourself.

What about those of us who turn everything off at night - Jetpack and computer - never stream movies, etc and still encounter these massive mb overages? I'm not engaging in conspiracy theory here, implying that Verizon is intentionally running up the data number so subscribers will graduate to the next (more expensive) tier in an effort to avoid overage charges, but something is definitely amiss with their data tracking system for this sort of thing to be happening to so many users, not all of whom are computer illiterates.

my point exactly, there is definitely something wrong within the program that records and logs data usage. But I have spent way too many hours trying to straighten out my bill with them. Over the course of two years. I have filed a report with the FCC, and I encourage each of you to do the same thing. Just because verizon contacts you after you get completely fed up and throws you a bone on your bill does not make what is happening ok. Because it will continue and they will not correct the problem until a regulatory body such as the FCC steps in and makes it happen. The FCC is not going to do this based on one report, however they can not excuse a hundred. This is considered fraudulent billing practices. Verizon is a corporate giant, I have lost a lot of money that I couldnt afford to lose because of their false data charges. The Fcc makes it very simple to file the report. They are online, and so is the report. I know they view each report because I was contacted by verizon telling me that they had been contacted by the FCC in regards to a complaint I filed. Of course Verizon wanted to make it go away and wanted to know how we were going to resolve the matter. I told them the only thing that they could do for me at this point, (which it should not have come to)was terminate my contract. I will be leaving Verizon as soon as I am out from under their contract. After many years of being a Verizon customer, even before they were Verizon, I shouldnt even be under contract, but I am. Two lines fall out in two months. The other two lines have another year, of course one of them being the 4G jetpack. Please consider filing a report
