We just recently purchased a new laptop with MS 7 on it and cannot get the USB modem to work. It has been taken to the local Verizon store and they stated they could not fix it. HMMM
Is there not a patch or driver for MS7?

Glad I am not the only person Verizon didn't bother to tell that this modem does not work with my brand new computer!! I have been on the Micrsoft Windows searching for a driver update to make this work. NO luck. Anyone find anything that works? The device works great on my ancient desktop but I REALLY need it to work with my laptop so I can be mobile!!

I also can not get my USB modem to work on my new laptop. It did work on a friends laptop that had windows 7, so it must be some settings. My computer is an HP Pavilion. The problem that I have is when VZ Access attempts to detect my device (unable to detect device). I had called about this and they had no idea why it doesn't work. This may be an issue with something from HP instead of Windows 7.

I am also having a significant problem with my USB760 and HP Pavilion Entertainment PC with Windows 7 Home Premium. VZAccess installs from the device, but then the device is not detected by the access manager. When I remove the device and re-insert it, the device does not recognize that the app has already been installed. Reinstalling does no good. I wait for over five minutes and the device is not detected. I do not know where to go from here.

Sounds like I'm not the only one with this problem. I have spoken with the Verizon Rep for hours and they don't know what is wrong. I bought a new HP laptop Windows 7, 64-bit, i7 processor and the UMW190. Nothing seems to work. I even went and got a new UMW190 and that one didn't work. I had geek squad take a look and they didn't know.
I even restore my laptop back to factory image thinking I had installed something. Has anyone figured out what settings need to be changed for this to work. I can get it to work on my other XP desktop without a problem.
Help!!!

I have the same problem on a new Dell laptop running Windows 7, which I had to buy when the disk on my old XP laptop went south. So it's not an HP problem, but a Windows7 problem. I tried setting up a standard user, but that didn't work. Has anyone found a solution to this mess yet? I don't want to pay $60/month for something that doesn't work.

I guess one possible solution would be to purchase a CradlePoint router and plug your USB modem into the router. I have a CradlePoint MBR1000 and CTR350 and they both work great. I got mine here http://moremobileinternet.com/

I too have the same problem on my new laptop with Windows 7. The VZ Access software cannot detect my Pantech UMW190 modem, so I never can connect. What a waste of 60.00 a month. C'mon Verizon fix this now please.
Anyone figure out a solution or a fix to this? Tech support is no help so far.

I sent an email message to Verizon Wireless support and got the following back:
We apologize for the inconvenience you are experiencing. The latest VZAccess Manager software, version 7.2.1 at www.vzam.net has been having problems on Windows 7. The issue you are experiencing is a previously reported issue that has been escalated internally to our Network Engineers and Software development team. Verizon Wireless is working aggressively to resolve this issue as soon as possible. At the present time however, you will need to reinstall the old VZAccess Manager software. You can visit a Verizon Wireless store to get the old VZAccess Manager software CD.
I went to my local store and showed them the letter. They installed an earlier version, but it didn't help. The fiddled with my laptop for about a 1/2 hour, finally uninstalling the drivers and the software and re-installing everything again (and rebooting). Nothing I hadn't done myself. But it worked. The next day, I tried the software my self on the train. It was able to find and configure the USB modem, but it died with a weird error message. Something to the like "(program) found a pure function call". On a hunch, I rebooted and not everything is working fine. Ken

Here's a temporary solution to the problem. Verizon tech called me and showed me how to connect to the internet using the UMW190 modem without using the VZ Access Manager. We set up a dial up connection using the modem and I am now connected through the Pantech UMW190 modem using the Windows 7 dialup connection. If someone is needing these directions to accomplish this until Verizon fixes their VZ Access Manager let me know. It works flawlessly so far using this "direct" dialup connection through Windows 7. And yes it's a 3G high speed broadband connection.

How do you do this?

Ok, I'll try the best I can. Make sure you have the VZAccess Manager installed because you need the drivers installed. The problem lies with the VZ Access Manager software but the drivers are good.
1. Right click on the stair steps in bottom right corner of your screen.
2. Open Network and Sharing Center
3. Select Set up a new connection or network
4. Select Set up a new dial up connection and click Next
5. Enter #777 for the phone number (yes, that's what your UMW190 will dial out)
Your username is your card's dataplan phone number followed by @vzw3g.com. So it will look like "1112223333@vzw3g.com" as an example.
Your password is your account's password
Once you set this up you just click on your stair steps icon in the task tray and click connect on the connection you just created.
If it doesn't work for you I suggest calling Verizon support and asking for assistance on setting this up.

I searched Google for a while last night after I saw this and found it, thanks!
Just a note, for the password I used the phone number that is associated with the device and that works also.
This will have to do till they finely get with it and update the software to support Windows 7.

I have a HP Mini notebook 210HD with a Athenos Wifi Adaptor. WINDOWS 7 STARTER ugh
I installed the VZAccess Manager and it fails to locate any devices. (the device is listed int the WIFI list in options?)
I still shows my wireless networks and connects to them at home as well as the statistics! The mini connects through it own wifi program too. VZ fails to show the Hot spot locator tab and MyVerizon or the ability for the program itself to access the Internet!? In a browser I can see the Internet and the Firewall has been disable for VZAccess
I do not know yet if I can access the Verizon network at a Starbucks since it is included for free in my Fios plan (which is why I got it with the free Mini notebook that Verizon supplied a $300 Gift card for!) I think the VZAcess Manager when connected to the Internet will give me an activation menu after it see the devices??? Is that correct?
Help! I am so disappointed that I may end my Fios!
What to do?
Thanks
PS Verizon stop hiding the program online, it took forever to find the link to download

I spent countless hours on the same problem with my wife's new Dell laptop running Windows 7 Home Premium (64 bit). We still can't tether to the Blackberry until the software is updated, but we reactivated our UM 150 USB modem. I'll spare you the frustrating details, but let me just say that tech support was useless.
What worked was:
1.) Uninstalling everything from Verizon, Smith Micro (software for VZAM), and Pantech (mfg of UM150).
2.) Reinstalling the VZAM software for the UM150 (while connected to the internet through DSL), allowing Windows to download the Pantech drivers automatically
3.) Following scottn7's instructions, which I copied below:
After logging off Windows and the logging back on, everything worked! I was also surprised to see that VZAM worked, too!
You may want to try the first 2 steps, then log off of Windows and back on before following scottn7's instructions. I'm not sure if all of the steps need to be followed, but I am glad it's finally working!!! After all I've been through, there's no way I'm going to start over just to experiment!!
By the way, the internet speed is the wireless broadband (3G?), not the slow dial-up speed! The "dial-up" connection is necessary because it changes the Windows 7 security level so that W7 will allow the connection.

Is there any newer post to this problem?
I am seeing the same thing on Windows 7 and have removed and re-installed VZAccess (newest version), but still get "No device detected" message.
Running this device as a dial-up is not acceptable!
Most recent post was March, 2010. Gotta believe there must be something newer!

My latest version of VZ Access Manager now works with my UMW190 modem, finally. Make sure you have the latest software version. I'm not sure if it's still the latest, but I have version 7.2.12.2 (2503a) and it works fine for me now. Also, realize that your modem does dialup every time you connect. That's the kind of connection this broadband wireless connection is (dial up). The modem wirelessly dials up a connection.
