how to get a router to work with a verizon cellular modem

I tried the UM175 with a router, and got no where. I called Verizon for help, the company I bought the router from, the company that made the router.

I think it has to do with the cellular modem needing to be activated. But even after I activated the UM175 with 3 other computers, it still would not do anything except give a red light.

How do I get a normal router to work with a cellular modem from Verizon?

I have a USB760 and it works great witn my CradlePoint MBR1000 and CradlePoint CTR350. I first activated my Verizon moble broadband account with the USB760 plugged directly into the laptop. Then I ordered the MBR1000 and when it arrived I simply plugged the USB760 into the router and it worked right out of the box. I recently bought the CTR350 and it worked right out of the box.
