Possible to swap my number to new phone while on Payment Plan?

Hello, 

I currently have an S23 Ultra on a Device Payment Plan with Verizon with about 14 remaining payments and accompanying  monthly trade-in credits from trading in my old S21.  My employer is currently allocating us an allowance for a new Phone which we will be reimbursed for through them.  If I trade in my S23Ultra I will lose the remaining trade-in credits.  Would it be possible for me to purchase (from any retailer) a new, unlocked S24 Ultra for full price (no trade in) through my company, and then transfer my service/line from my old S23 to my new S24Ultra and keep the S23 as a backup while finishing out the rest of my payment plan?  All it really would be is activation of a new device and maybe a SIM swap?

I want to be sure that this is technically possible before I spend the allowance on a new phone.
