I'm wondering if anyone else has had a similar issue, and if they have been able to get it sucessfully resolved in some way. I have been through 12 devices (8 Droid 2/D2 Global/R2D2, and 4 Droid X's) since April 2011. Problems with the phones have ranged from dead cameras, to dysfuntional screens, and most recently a blown-out sounding earpiece. In my most recent call, I had asked if I could someout get away from Motorola devices and get a one from a different manufacturer, hoping I would have better luck there since I can't seem to get a good refurb from Motorola. All my service rep (Doug from Tier 2) told me was that they could send me another Droid X, or I could buy a new phone at full retail. I said to him again that I was looking to get away from Motorola and why, but he just repeated himself (felt like he was reading from a script. My Tier 1 rep was better!), saying that would be 'over stepping their bounds' and that they had done that multiple times in the past on my account. The only time I've had a different model of phone sent to me was when they ran out of Droid 2's, and sent me a few Droid 2 Globals and an R2D2, and then when I switched to the Droid X.
Any help/tips that anyone could offer would be fantastic. I've been told contacting the BBB could be helpful, which I might do if I don't get this fixed by the end of the week.
Some additional info that might be helpful: The plan/billing/numbers are all based in the Portland, OR area. My original device, however, was purchased in Flagstaff, AZ.

That could potentially fall into rules for lemon laws, depending upon the laws that Oregon has on the books. 8 Droid 2 and 4 droid X? Wow....I would say going to the BBB would be helpful. I'm really surprised there hasn't been some kind of class action lawsuit against VZW for the constant problems I see with the Droid X reported here and elsewhere, especially since the GB update and the massive problems that it created. The problem is NOT with apps, but rather with the phone and the OS. The radio problem was supposed to be resolved but I still have 3G/1X problems constantly with this phone. I have done so many factory resets its not even funny, and they might resolve 1 or 2 problems, but they create 1 or 2 new problems. The SD card that the phone originally came with completely corrupted after the GB update, and the replacement SD card I had to go buy (since VZW absolutely refused to replace the original one that was corrupted). Verizons answer to most problems lately has been the attitude of 'there isn't anything further we can do so you have to live with it' - they're really alienating alot of their cusotmers, most of them LONG TIME cusotmers like me\

Verizon does not make any cell phones nor OS. Motorola, LG, etc. make the phones, the OS, and the upgrades. So, if you want to go after anybody, you have to go after the manufacturers. As for anybody needing 11 replacements, all I can say is hmmm!

I would say the OP should go to Vegas and give the MegaBucks a shot. I would say you'd have a better shot at hitting it for 12 million dollar$ than getting 12 defective phones in a row!
I wish everyone lots of luck with their phones....

I never said they made the phone or the OS.....not even sure where you came to that conclusion. So get your facts straight and don't make it be that I said Verizon is the maker of the phone nad the OS so it's all their fault. The droid x is a phone that Motorola makes....I KNOW THIS, but Verizon is who sells the phone to their user and they are responsible no differently than Moto is for providing equipment and proper support to their customers. The majority of the blame does lie on Motorola, but Moto modifies the base Android OS to work with their piece of equipment, to which VZW will then make OS modifications to smoothly operate with their network, so they have their hand in the cookie jar as well, so I can easily see a court having no problem allowing a suit to go against both the manufacturer of the phone, as well as the wireless carrier if someone were to bring that to bear.

I went through 3 Droid X's earlier this year and I was offered a different, but equivalent phone (HTC) before discovering what was causing the issue with my X.
So, unless the "rules" have changed, I can say based on personal experience, they have done it before.
I would keep calling. Keep emailing. At some point, your situation should be raised to someone at a level that has the authority to make a decision.
As for all of your issues, I don't doubt your explanation. You probably were receiving refurbs with issues that slipped through the cracks.
VZW has never addressed what testing process refurbs go through before they are sent back out. Knowing that might shed some light on how you received phones that had issues.
I'm not going down the "apps are the issue" road. You didn't mention if you installed any, and I am in the camp that thinks they cause a lot of issues; but the issues you described sound mostly hardware related.
Just for kicks, I'd like to know if phones that are sent back for repair (and eventually become refurbs) have any apps installed. Wouldn't that make sense? Just download a hundred, or so and test the phones.
That won't happen and evidently wouldn't mean anything to those that don't think apps have anything to do with glitchy phones, anyway.
Skeptical of any Class Action speculation. What would that mean for Joe Consumer? A coupon for $10.
Furthermore, on the subject of lawsuits, I've said it before. Most of us got these phones for $199. Most of us have blown more than that at an NFL game, or a really nice dinner. Any refunds when your team loses, or the dinner sucks? No.
I know, this is different because these are phones and important for many reasons. They should function as advertised.
Again, back to the OP, I say, keep trying. Someone at VZW will take note of your unacceptable number of issues and do something.
Consider iOS, Windows, BB, or even a flip phone. Your experience with Android has been a failure.
