2.2 Update Droid X

So last night I received a notifiaction that there was a software update...assuming this was 2.2, as I read in some recent post, Verizon started sending them out yesterday afternoon....Before I could review the update and install, my battery died.  When I recharged enough to turn the phone back on, the notification, and update were gone.  I went to my system to do a manual update check...said my phone was up to date with the latest software.  My system still says 2.1.  Does anyone know if you miss an update or notification, do these get resent, or do I just need to keep manually checking, or will they eventually send another update notify to my phone.

Any comments would be greatly appreciated!

I haven't been lucky to get the opportunity. But what you can do is take out the battery of DX and then put it back in. That should reactivate the update now alert. Or you could try the *228 and spark up the phone.

I just chatted with Motorola about update to 2.2 and all they said was it was coming late summer.  I reminded them that the official calendar only has 4 days of summer left--they just repeated the statement "late summer" so I wonder if it will be revised to fall or late fall or early winter or late winter---it just keeps getting put off and I need flash player!!!

Funny you say that, the other day i had a pop up for an update. it was a screen that explained info on the 2.2 update had some info about it and instrutions on how to install it, it had a place at bottom to touch that said "OK"  i clicked ok and nothing happend. The screen just went to home screen and when i tried to check for software it said i was also up to date with the 2.1 still installed......... I have no idea what that was about.

it appears that some dx owners are receiving vzw messages stating that an update is available because they previously owned the droid1 before switching to the dx.

At this time the 2.2 software update has not been released for the Droid X.  We will provide information to you as we receive it.

Well, Verizon needs to get on the ball. I'm tired of being told by certain web sites that my phone does not have the flash player to watch video. I'm also tired of the stuck pixels in camera mode. Not to mention, this is my second X because of stuck pixels.

Are you trying to tell us you have NO information about this?

I think we are way past the point of believing that.

Of course you know what's happening, at least be honest and say there is an issue with exchange and the update has been delayed 1-2 weeks, bla bla bla....whatever the real story is.

I do, however, have serious doubts about this since the Droid and Droid 2 both have the 2.2 update. There is no significant difference between the DX and D2 from a hardware standpoint, so what is the REAL issue?

I purchased this phone with the belief that the 2.2 update was only a few weeks away.

I need the 2.2 update so I can access flash-enabled sites for work ( I teach online and the course shell uses a lot of flash content).

I'm not just looking for videos on Hulu, the lack of 2.2 is preventing me from using the phone as intended and I am extremely disappointed with Verizon and Motorola.

I never thought I would regret leaving AT&T and my iPhone for the Dx just a few weeks into owning it, but two months later and no update?

Appalling.

And how did you manage to do your work before Droid X? don't tell me now that because of not having flash on your phone you're no longer able to do your work, you're one more that I read that blames their lack of patience on VZW and Motorola, it's their fault now that your life sucks and to fix that you need Froyo NOW!!!

I'm happy I use my phone as an extension of my laptop to receive emails when I'm on the road, make phone calls (actually I just love big fancy cell phones you know, but most of the time I use it to make phone calls, how weird isn't it?) and not as my laptop, I have other things that I use the phone for, but if tomorrow my phone breaks or gets lost my life won't end, looks like yours ended when you bought the DX, I'm sorry that happened to you.

And yeah, looks like you don't know too much about hardware and software, DX and D2 are not the same, even if they look the same, the don't have the same processor, the screen is different, keyboard, etc etc... the real story is that developing and testing software isn't an easy thing to do, it's just a bug in this or that, yeah sounds easy, do you know how much effort is required to fix it? do you know what it takes to test it?

But your excuse about flash is a nice excuse, I should look a way to use it and blame the phone for something I didn't do

If you're still on your 30 days to return the phone, go and get a Droid 2 and enjoy Flash in BETA, I really doubt Droid X will get the update in the next couple days as promised, I hope I'm mistaken, and btw, after you get 2.2 please don't come back whining about how Flash is making crash your phone or how pages are not rendering correctly, because BETA = lots and lots of bugs and this time is not VZW or Motorola's fault, go to the Adobe forums and demand a fix there

BTW, did you know that the iPhone doesn't has Flash? unless you jailbreak it and install an app intended to emulate Flash, but won't work 100% of the times

Before you go on some tantrum on someone....know what you're talking about. Flash 10.1 for mobile has been out of beta for a little over a month now.

i've been running flash on my D1 since July

also currently running flash on my Dx due to the leaked 2.2 for a month now.  Never crashed anything and I use flash a lot.

And..I agree about not going on a tirade.  The post in question seems to have a legimiate reason for needing Flash Support.

My only question is; do you have a laptop?  I assume not if you are relying on flash support on your phone to do school work.

Get a pc or a laptop and you'll have a much better experience w/ your school work.

Get your facts straight before putting them out there. They use the exact same processor.

You should have researched it a little more. When Verizon went public with the X they said that Froyo would be coming late summer. As in the last part of summer. Fall Begins Thursday, so until then, its still late summer.

You need flash on your phone to teach. What did you do before you got the DX? Being disappointed in Verizon and Motorola because they are still on their timeline, not yours?

You regrest leaving ATT and iPhone? iPhone doesnt run flash either, so who are you kidding? You also could have downloaded Flash beta from the market. That ran on 2.1 (at least it was available for 2.1)

There is a Difference between the Droid, Droid 2 and Doid X. There is also a software difference between the three. They have to make sure that Motoblur lite actually works with 2.2.

Have a little patience... it will come...

Verizon Wireless has begun pushing Android 2.2, Froyo, to the DROID X by Motorola as of 9-22-2010. Customers do not have to wait for the over the air push, they can obtain the official update via the device itself by following these steps: "Menu" > "Settings" > "About Phone" > "System Updates". For more information and step-by-step instructions please visit www.verizonwireless.com/DroidXsupport.

really....mikey?  One post and that's what you add?  I don't mean to come off rude, but saying your phone is "really screwed up now" and it's a POS is pretty vague and you won't get much sympathy here.  We (most people) love our Droids.

And, beyond a notification that an update is available that you have to manually accept, you would not have been forced to install it.  If you agree to download it you agree to install it.

Yup that was my first post , due to the fact I just switched to Verizon/Android little over 1 month ago.

havent need to visist this forum ever.

I never agreed to download or install it , after visiting other sites others have seen the same auto install with no notification.

Not looking for sympathy just frustrated that after paying and waiting on this phone I have no control over what is pushed to it.

The phone worked great before this update.

so you liked the phone and you liked verizon for a month and one issue comes up and all of a sudden the phone is a "POS" and verizon is garbage too?

I totaly get being frustrated if there are issues.  You havent actually posted what those issues are, many are probably able to be fixed.

You can always request a replacement, you have a 1 yr warranty and then just don't download or install the 2.2 update.

Just call VZW and do their trouble shooting and then if it does not work, have them send you a replacement.

or did you have some stuff of there that wasnt supposed to be that got wiped ?  mikey mikey ....you didnt get a forced push you are lying its in the terms and agreement all the software from the os's to the apps have to be agreed on to download because if they arent official and mess up your device its your fault. so until you get specific as to what your issues are..{please keep your posts courteous}
